Regguy Posted August 14, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 14, 2008 Hi -- we're thinking about taking a taxi to playa la ropa in Zihua on an upcoming cruise, but will be with children. What's the best way to do a beach day at la ropa with children? Can we get a day pass at any of the resorts? Is there a better way to get set up on the beach in a spot and also have use of facilities for changing or eating, etc.? Thanks!
weLuv2cruz2MUCH Posted August 14, 2008 #2 Share Posted August 14, 2008 We were at this beach in January. Ask the cab driver to take you to La Perla Restaurant at Playa La Ropa Beach. They have washrooms you can change into your swimsuits in and they rent beach chairs and umbrellas. It is right on the beach infront of the restaurant - so you can order drinks, food, etc. The beach is beautiful and sandy and the waves are gentle. As far as resorts - there are none on the Zihuatanejo side - they are all on the Ixtapa side. Hope this helps.
hc00010 Posted August 14, 2008 #3 Share Posted August 14, 2008 We took a water taxi from the port to Playa La Ropa. It was a couple dollars each. My sister brought her 5, 9, and 11 year-olds and we had a great time. We walked down to the restaurant La Perla and were able to use their lounge chairs and facilities, of course ordering food and drinks. It was excellent--recommended by Frommer's. When you get off the dock, turn right for a few short blocks and pick up a taxi from the street...it will be 3 bucks to La Ropa. Too many time the taxis just off the dock will charge you 5 or 10 dollars because cruise people don't know any better, ...and I would suggest Paty's Mar y Mar. No charge for the chairs etc. clean bathrooms, even a separate john for 2/3 year olds with the tiniest toilet you'll ever see. Food is very, very good...we spend almost everyday there when we are down for 6 weeks. Tell Paty a hello from larry and Doris...any more questions ? candigirl41 Posted August 16, 2008 #6 Share Posted August 16, 2008 Best beach I ever had at La Perla. We sat at a table and ordered food and drinks so we didn't have to pay for loungers. Candi
Bucky3 Posted August 16, 2008 #7 Share Posted August 16, 2008 Is Paty's close to La Perla? Are there beach activities at both places - banana boats, etc.? Our family will be there Christmas week and I'm sure everywhere will be crowded. Will La Ropa still be a good choice for this stop?

Yes, La Ropa is a good beach to stay at. It will be less busy in the morning and a little less busy at the restaurants, a lot of the Mexican families bring their own food and will be at either end of the beach, not so much in the middle....Paty's is all of a 5 to 7 minute walk to La Perla...the beach is all of 3/4 of a mile...and yes, activities in 4 or 5 places... If you're interested in more info on La Perla go to www.zihuatanejo.net and go to the message page, go down to a thread on 8/6 that starts with LA PERLA NOT SO PEARLISH... lots of pro and con, mostly con... Bucky3 Posted August 17, 2008 #10 Share Posted August 17, 2008 Lardor - Thanks for that link and for coming back to anwer more questions! One person in our group has a problem walking up and down hills and steps. If we take a land taxi to Paty's on La Ropa, how difficult/easy is the walk to get down to the beach? Are there water taxis that go there and would that be better than taking a land taxi? There are nine people in our group. Your replies are very much appreciated! If you take a water "taxi" you have to jump off the boat into 2/3 feet of water, there is no dock of any kind. The land taxi will drop you off at Paty's and it is at sea level...and you are on the beach. If you have little ones you might get 5 in a cab, usually 4 is max....and it's 3 bucks from town...
