bookfairy Posted August 14, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 14, 2008 When we flew right after 9/11, our locks were broken when we got to Australia. Should I lock our check in bags?
paul929207 Posted August 15, 2008 #2 Share Posted August 15, 2008 Only if you have TSA approved locks. If you don't, TSA will likely cut off your locks.
bassmomma Posted August 15, 2008 #3 Share Posted August 15, 2008 Even if you have the TSA approved locks, you are running the risk of the lock being removed and not replaced. On two occasions, I have lost a TSA lock at Sky Harbor, Phoenix.
bookfairy Posted August 15, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted August 15, 2008 Thank you for your help. That is what I thought, but things have relaxed a little since 9/11. I have my essentials and valuable things in the carry ons anyway.
letsgo39 Posted August 15, 2008 #5 Share Posted August 15, 2008 Just put your valuables in your carryon and don't worry about locking your luggage. If someone wanted to get in there they could anyway, locks or not. In 5 trips to Europe over the last 5 years I have never locked my bags and never had a problem. I do use a strap around the outside which would keep the bag from flying open and also helps me to identify it at baggage claim.
tiggypooo Posted August 15, 2008 #6 Share Posted August 15, 2008 I'm with the "never lock my bags" group. Anyone that has access to your luggage and wants to get into it, can very easily cut off any lock and get in. There should NEVER be any valuables in your checked luggage anyway, so unless someone wants some of my clothes, there won't be anything anyone would want.
