Denverite Posted August 15, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 15, 2008 For Siem Reap, can we use US Dollars or must we convert to their currency? I know in Vietnam they prefer US Dollars but was unsure of Cambodia. This would just be for small purchases (i.e., postcards, postage, soda, etc.)
eqr Posted August 15, 2008 #2 Share Posted August 15, 2008 U.S. dollars are widely accepted, but for smaller items you may want to use Riel. BTW, there's a lot of counterfeit US dollars in Cambodia, so check your US dollars when in Cambodia, even from banks. Also make sure that your US dollars are in good condition, because most places won't accept torn notes. You can also use ATM in both Siem Reap and Phnom Penh to withdraw US dollars. Denverite Posted August 15, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted August 15, 2008 Thank you! That is really a great web site with information on Cambodia. I think we will stick with new US Dollars and if we need any Riel we'll just use the ATM as you indicated. Thanks again.
