Lindbergh Bay/Emerald Beach

How is this beach? Are there chairs for rent? Would it be relatively uncrowded for a Saturday? Is there decent snorkeling?

If not here - what beach probably would not be crowded, and cost a fortune in taxi fare to get to (8 people)?

Thanks!

Emerald Beach is not for snorkeling. If you want to snorkel go to Coki or Sapphire.

Cab fare is what it is on St. Thomas. If this is an issue, you can rent a van, or consider taking the bus to Sapphire.

Thanks for the info, but everything I've read indicates that these 2 beaches get crowded. As I stated previously, I am looking for a beach that may not be so crowded.

Are you coming in on a Princess ship? If yes, then Emerald Beach is a good choice for you. We have been there 2x when on ships docked at the crown marina. If I remember correctly, it was $3/pp taxi fare and there is no problem getting a taxi for your return. They will leave you at the Best Western Emerald Beach but you don't have to go through the lobby. Walk through the path on the side right onto the beach. You can rent chairs for about $5. They don't have umbrellas for rent but there is some shade from trees. You can use the very clean bathroom at the hotel and also buy drinks and food there if you want. It is not a beach for snorkeling but a nice, quiet place to spend a few hours.

Emerald Beach has palapas umbrellas now. Don't know the rental rate. There are chairs for rent. Emerald is generally not a beach that gets busy. On Saturday and Sundays there tends to be more people though since residents are off from work and its a somewhat popular choice for residents (not as much as Magens or Coki and not as much on a Saturday than on Sunday). Also with a ship docking in Crown Bay it gets more beachgoers than normal since its the closest beach to the dock. All that noted, it will be less crowded than Coki. As previously noted, Emerald isn't known for snorkeling. If you want to see iguanas though and typically quite a few of them, walk down to the end of the beach and up to the small playground - there are usually lots of them hanging out in the grass and on the rocks.

Secret Harbor is usually not crowded. It does have good snorkeling. Crown Bay to Secret Harbor would be $11 pp, ow.
