snowbegone Posted August 17, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 17, 2008 We are planning a cruise out of San Juan. Any hotel suggestions if we fly in the day before our cruise? We are new at this - is this a good idea? Like to get away from snow as soon as possible.:p
Dgonza Posted August 17, 2008 #2 Share Posted August 17, 2008 Yes its a great idea just in case there are any delays/cancellations etc.... Try checking out priceline. At least you can see what hotels are there and get an idea of looks, location, and cost
snowbegone Posted August 17, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted August 17, 2008 Thank you so much. I think it would be great to look around San Juan and not have to rush to the ship. Thanks again.
cruisinbuddy Posted August 17, 2008 #4 Share Posted August 17, 2008 We stayed in the Sheratin Old San Juan in Feb. Nice hotel and right across the street from the Princess pier. Expensive though, $400.00 a night for two people.
CRAZYBOUTCRUZIN Posted August 17, 2008 #5 Share Posted August 17, 2008 In 2006 we got the Holiday Inn on Priceline at $100. It was a very nice hotel within walking distance to beautiful Isla Verde beach. There was a restaurant in a strip center between the hotel and the beach that was outstanding. The Holiday Inn is right next to the airport which makes it convenient when you fly in but it is somewhat distant from the pier.Taxis are easily available. The Radisson is across the street with an excellent casino. Hope this helps and you enjoy your trip.
agabbymama Posted August 17, 2008 #6 Share Posted August 17, 2008 We flew into San Juan 3 days early and explored a little. We stayed at the Radisson, it was a lovely hotel, only a couple of blocks from the hotel. They had a tour desk, so we were able to book our tours right there. There were lots of restaurant choices within a two block walking distance, and shops too.

snowbegone Posted August 17, 2008 Author #8 Share Posted August 17, 2008 Thanks everyone. Great help. This is our second cruise and we are bringing friends who have never cruised before. We would like to book our own flight and a hotel this time (last time it was a rush from airport to ship - it took a day to settle down - newbies!!). I am a little nervous about booking our own, especially when there are other people to think about. This site is a great help.
Dgonza Posted August 20, 2008 #9 Share Posted August 20, 2008 Yeah, I hear you. On my first cruise I sailed with my sister out of San Juan. The ship left at 10pm. Our flight got in at 8:30. I didnt know we had to be on the ship by 9pm. So we were rushing rushing rushing. Told the taxi guy to drive fast!!! We tipped him a little extra too. I was a newbie. I will never fly in the same day again. It could have been worse. We could have missed a connecting flight, got delayed or something and missed the first day of the cruise. Lessons learned I guess. barbarah33 Posted August 20, 2008 #10 Share Posted August 20, 2008 It's a great idea as it allows plenty of time for any random delay, etc. I always fly in a day early for my cruises. In San Juan I have stayed at several hotels but have grown fond of the Caribe Hilton. It's a quick cab ride - less than 5 minutes, to the pier and has a great location. They are on the water with a nice pool area, outdoor bar and restaurant; they also have indoor, and the pina colada was invented there!! Any place famous for inventing a great cocktail can't be bad.
