Spender Nui Posted August 20, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2008 I've been to Quebec several times, never on a cruise. I've always thought it would be a great cruise stop with the pier conveniently located at the foot of the lower old city. I have recently been told that not all cruise ships tie up there. Is there another cruise pier?
Twickenham Posted August 21, 2008 #2 Share Posted August 21, 2008 On the extremely rare occasion when there is more than 3 ships in town (once or twice a year), they will use a pier a few miles down the river from Lower Town. The pier where a ship will dock is indicated on the Schedule of Cruise Ships on the Port of Québec's website: http://www.portquebec.ca/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=97 Quai 22 & 21 are the best berths. Quai 93 is at the Coast Guards, very close by. Quai 103 is the furthest pier; I see only the Explorer of the Seas is using it this year, and I suspect that has more to do with the ship's size. I believe a shuttle bus into town is available from that pier, but always best to confirm.
Spender Nui Posted August 22, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted August 22, 2008 Thanks for the good information. I've been trying to locate 103 on Google Earth and haven't been able to.

B is around Quai 22.

2tsquared Posted August 23, 2008 #8 Share Posted August 23, 2008 Twickenham, we will be arriving on Monday, 9/29 on the Constellation, docking in Quai 93. I think I've read somewhere on these boards that a shuttle (or bus?) is necessary in order to get "started into the city." Is there a tourist information booth at 93 along with easy transportation; or do we need to get ourselves over to Quai 21/22 before starting a walking tour of the city? Thanks! Terry :)
Twickenham Posted August 24, 2008 #9 Share Posted August 24, 2008 I've amended the map: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=Rue+du+Cap-Diamant+%4046.795822,+-71.220524&daddr=Boulevard+Champlain+%4046.805230,+-71.205320+to:Rue+Dalhousie+%4046.815548,+-71.201973+to:46.811258,-71.203154+to:Boulevard+Champlain+%4046.810404,+-71.203295&hl=en&geocode=8245998780060498040,46.795822,-71.220524%3B3443565921042817316,46.805230,-71.205320%3B7077337595924945672,46.815548,-71.201973%3B6593996727119256296,46.810404,-71.203295&mra=dpe&mrcr=1&mrsp=3&sz=17&via=1,3&sll=46.810987,-71.202618&sspn=0.003224,0.006866&ie=UTF8&ll=46.806463,-71.207113&spn=0.02579,0.054932&t=h&z=14 to include Quai 93 (C on the map). As you can see, it's quite close to 22/21, and just as good for starting a walking tour. The only real negative to this pier is for us residents, as since it's the Coast Guard station, we can't get as close to the ship as for when they're docked at 22/21 :( . But for passengers, it's fine; just walk up towards the main road, turn right, and cross, and you'll be able to walk right down rue du Petit-Champlain, which purports to be the oldest shopping street in North America. Very charming. Then, from there, you can either go right and explore the rest of lower town, or go up the stairs and see upper town. Unfortunately, no tourist info near the dock - I think there's a provincial tourist info in upper town on rue Ste-Anne - but you can get lots of info from their website: http://www.quebecregion.com/e/. 2tsquared Posted August 25, 2008 #11 Share Posted August 25, 2008 Sounds like a good pair of walking shoes and a good map will, indeed, provide us with the essentials to enjoy fabulous Quebec! Merci, Twickenham! :) tt
