I thought I had this all worked out but now am getting more confussed. If I want to just book a cruise and not a cruisetour then is there a company I can use to set up my tours, or would I have to rent a car and drive?

You are talking about visiting INTERIOR Alaska??? Yes there are several tour operators that do set up these.

I suggest you head to your library and take out Alaska travel books, Fodor's Alaska and Frommer's Alaska are especially good. Find out what is the most interest to you, research areas, determine what activities you wish to see and do. THEN pick out a package that includes them. I would discourage you from just picking something based on the brochure description, just because it is well written.

Usually highlights for wildlife is Denali Park- be CERTAIN to get INTO it, and Kenai fjords boat tours out of Seward.
