tell me what to do in Acapulco

Alcapulco looks like a big city. Do you recommend just walking around and shopping and eating?

Did anyone find any good independent tours?

I'm guessing the nightlife is good? Our ship is there from noon until 1 am the next morning.

Any help would be appreciated.

Don't miss the cliff divers. I thought it might be a bit "cheesy" but I absolutely loved it. There are tours you can book with the ship but I would imagine it's something you could do on your own but would need to find out times of the dives.

You can walk around and shop and eat. That is always fun until you are full and your feet hurt and you are exhausted from repeating the word No.

There are many activities to enjoy in Acapulco. One of the most popular attractions is the Shotover jet Boat Rides. The second would be La Roqueta Island and Palao Island Club Restaurant. Of course the Cliff Divers are always an attraction. My favorites always involve Ecology or History and I like to Ride Horses on the Beach.

The Night Life in Acapulco is beyond imaginable. Incredible, fun and packed with the sexiest people in Acapulco. Try Pure or Palladium and on the Beach my personal fave is Paradise Bar.

I like this thread because of the Title.. Tell me what to do in Acapulco.

I am going to tell you what to do - Have Fun -

OK so Acapulco doesn't have 10 kazillion really dynamite attractions. BUT what it does have is pretty cool. Think of Las Vegas without casinos sitting on a beach, now look over your shoulder and add mountains.

I think Para sailing would be a blast. I have seen them but never gone. Cruising around the bay on a jet ski is an awesome way to see the entire bay.

I have seen the banana tubes pulled behind the boats, looks more like a kids thing but looks fun all the same.

Bungee jumping by the Paradise bar.. That I hear is a lot of fun. haven't done it myself. There is a similar ride in CICI Water Park.

Then of course there are miles of beaches, boats for hire, the list is endless. Go water skiing.

There are activities for everyone in Acapulco. You can't miss this Port, this is where it all began.

Ships are big and comphy cozie... But yeah, what about those excursion prices. Kinda makes me wanna run out and buy a $10 tube of toothpaste.

Take a local agency or cab. Spend $7.50 - $30 navigating Acapulco blind, or go with an operator and spend $20 - $30 and actually get there and see the show on time. However you get there.. just go. It is a cool show.

Do not attempt this at home.

IMAGINE THIS: You have the Diver's view - You wouldn't jump. First thing you see is rocks, and little splashy ocean waves on those rocks. Now you want to jump head first off a cliff to those rocks you are looking at - and you want to do this activity face first at 50 MPH. Good luck with that.

That is what the cliff divers do and they have never had a casualty. And if there ever was a casualty, he didn't live to tell about it.

Go to this show or your friends will call you a lamer.

Reenactment: Duuude you were in Acapulco and didn't see the diver show? Your a lamer. Everybody sees the divers show.

My advice: Listen to chloedmom -Avoid the embarrassment of lamerosity and see the show.

The trip to La Roqueta island is awesome! But it is not all you can eat Ribs.

It is a premium meal, on the island you can have a choice of Lobster, Jumbo Shrimp, BBQ Ribs, Chicken or Fresh Fish and also includes “Domestic Open Bar”. Which includes any alcohol manufactured in Mexico. (Corona, Tequila, Vodka; etc)

The only thing that is "All you can Consume" is Alcohol.

And let your children know, there are no sharks in the Acapulco bay. Just to get fresh shark for Cevichi the fishermen drive more than 20 miles away from Acapulco and are only able to get small ones.

Where is this Island and how long does it take to get there? It sounds great!!! Is there a website?

Thank you TacosBeer. You have a wealth of information about Acapulco.

We will be in port for about 12 hours. I imagine we can do several things in that time. Do you know where the best snorkeling would be? Or, is snorkeling any good in Acapulco?

Any off the beaten path things to do?

Tequila factories? Bull fights? Tours through the countryside? Away from the big city?

Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I will contact them direct, and e mail for more info.

I am kinda of a chicken, about rides, but I know my husband will love it.

So I am just wondering how long the actual speed part of the boat ride is.

Crazy, I know.

Thanks again, and keep up the info. Its not everyday we get to Acapulco.

We just returned from the Spirit, and went to the cliff divers, with a private tour. We went in the day, around 12:45 pm it was VERY hot, the waves were not very good, so there were delays. It looks like the night show would be best, with the fire, and lights we watched it from the cruise video on the ships t.v. and it seemed better The lower level wasn't crowded, but its many stairs down if i went again i would go at night. I read on these boards to see the divers during the day, well I would like a poll on this.

I do not agree, altho I didn't go a night, but it sure looked better from the video they took on that tour. I don't think its that great, sorry ......:confused:any other opinions?

I really enjoyed the cliff divers show. I have always wanted to see them, they were one of the highlights of my time in Acapulco.

The warm air, ocean waves, and all of the Ice cold corona we could drink.

We were all stood in amazement watching the men dive from the cliff.

The water that they dive into has big boulders.

I've seen the divers perform many times, day and night, and I prefer to see the performances during daylight hours. What you'll see at night is not likely to be the same, in person, as what you may see in a shipboard video presentation . . . unless you're a bird hovering close-by. I know people who hold opposite views about when to visit the divers, and recognize the differing priorities. I have a photo album loaded to the www, featuring the divers - and other parts of Acapulco - for people reading this discussion who haven't yet been to the city and might be interested in what they'd see upon arrival.

Just got back form the Spirit and took this tour.

I really have mixed emotions about this one. We were greeted by the tour provider right outside the ship and boarded a bus to take us to the Beach Club. We drove through the city and they gave us a running comentary on the area, stopped at Las Brisas to take pictures of the bay, which by the way was gorgeous.Arrived at the El Cano and sure enough greeted with a Coco Loco drink. It was warm, had been at in the sun but nontheless, the hospitality of the club could not have been nicer. The club is small, quaint and on the beach. Pool was small but had a swim up bar.Plenty of areas to sit in the sun or shade. No complaints about the club or its service. By 4pm we had a Mexican Buffet which the food was absolutly delicous not to mention the presentation was beautiful.Waiters waited on us hand and foot, bathrooms spotless.A good day there.

But, this is now 5pm or so and headed back to the area of the cliff divers. Lots of 5pm traffic and stuck listening to corney jokes byt the tour guide for and hour and a half.

We were brought to a store to make purchases of very expensive overpriced silver. This i could have done without. Our tour did not end at 7:30 as stated, the cliff divers did not start untill about that time. My point in all of this is this made for a very long day.We got back to the ship at appx. 8;10pm.For us, it was really hard due to the festivities going on for Halloween.

I cant complain about the overall experience but just keep in mind, it's a long day!! :)

Is it possible to take a taxi to the glass bottom boat? Then take the glass bottom boat to La Roqueta Island and go to the Palao Island Club Restaurant for lunch on our own without a lot of walking? Is the Palao Island Club Restaurant expensive? Is it on the beach?

Thanks so much for your help?

DH insists on seeing the cliff divers whenever we're in Acapulco. We go out to the street and flag down a taxi that is an old VW bug. For about $3 ($2 back) we get a ride to the cliff divers. Then we pay about (don't know if the prices have changed) $5-$6 for a beer or soft drink and permission to go down to a viewing platform directly across from the cliff divers. I must admit that I no longer go down with him, as it is a hard, hot climb (for me) back up the stairs.

We also find the fort directly across from the ship's terminal to be interesting (and the walls are thick, so it is cooler at the museum inside the walls). Nancy
