zoomer Posted October 24, 2004 #1 Share Posted October 24, 2004 Since there is such a shortage of flu vaccine in the US, I'm wondering if anyone knows of a clinic in Cozumel where you can get a flu shot.
Izzy Bee Posted October 24, 2004 #2 Share Posted October 24, 2004 I emailed Tony at America Discount Drugstore and was told no influenza vaccines available at this drugstore..didn't ask about anywhere else...Maybe Coz Sally will know...
Okiechic7 Posted October 25, 2004 #3 Share Posted October 25, 2004 I hear you can get quite a few different medications right over the counter in Cozomel is this for real? If so where can you get a list of what is available??
ColoradoLad Posted October 25, 2004 #4 Share Posted October 25, 2004 http://gocozumel.com/pharmacy/medication.htm Cozumel has many other pharmacy outlets. This is the closest to the ship docks. Paris Pharmacy is on 30th, etc.. and they have a lot more than what is listed. Colorado
CozSally Posted October 25, 2004 #5 Share Posted October 25, 2004 In terms of over-the-counter vs prescription-only, in Mexico (given availability) you can get anything over the counter as long as it's not a controlled substance. If the American Pharmacy has not been able to get flu vaccines, I doubt other pharmacies will have them. American Pharmacy caters to tourists, the local pharmacies do not. Influenza is not a major concern for the locals of Cozumel. If I have a chance, I'll verify this.

miclane001 Posted October 25, 2004 #7 Share Posted October 25, 2004 Does U.S. Customs allow you to bring in medication purchased in Mexico?
solita Posted October 26, 2004 #8 Share Posted October 26, 2004 I asked at 2 pharmacies close to my apartment today. Neither had the vaccine. Prices of medicine in Cozumel isn't always cheaper than the states. Case in point, I used to take Claritin on a daily basis. The price here was almost $2.00 a pill! To take medicine into the U.S. you are supposed to have a prescription for that med. But I have found that isn't always the case...I have taken various different meds to the states with no problem (antibiotics, Flonase, etc.). There are pharmacies everywhere here and I have found the prices are within a few cents of each other no matter if you are at one on the pier, downtown or in the outlaying area. No big bargin shopping places.
zydecocruiser Posted October 29, 2004 #9 Share Posted October 29, 2004 Grand Cayman has (had?) flu vaccine, not sure if you have to be a resident to get. Understand flu shots can be had for $30 in Canada. The following might be the best advice: Here is advice to give to those who are unable to get FLU SHOTS: How to Avoid Flu Eat right! Make sure you get your daily dose of fruits and veggies.- Take your vitamins and bump up your vitamin C. Get plenty of exercise because exercise helps build your immune system. Walk for at least hour a day, go for a swim, take the stairs instead of the elevator, etc. Wash your hands often. If you can't wash them, keep a bottle of antibacterial stuff around. - Get lots of fresh air. Open windows whenever possible. Get plenty of rest. Try to eliminate as much stress from your life as you can. OR ... You can take the doctors office approach. Think about it, when you go for a shot, what do they do first? Clean your arm with alcohol. Why? Because alcohol kills germs. So...I walk to the liquor store (exercise), I put lime in my Corona (fruit), celery in my Bloody Mary (veggies), drink on the bar patio (fresh air), get drunk, tell jokes, and laugh (eliminate stress) and then pass out (rest). The way I see it, if you keep your alcohol levels up flu germs can't get you!!!! CHEERS
