It seems like you know a lot about Manzanillo. Manzanillo is our last port.

We are each picking a port to pick out excursions, etc. There are 3 of us.

I want to "knock their socks off". But, I have to stay within a $50 each budget.

Any suggestions? Nothing touristy. We want real Mexico. Excellent snorkeling? I visit to a private home with good food? Something unusual and fun. There is me and my husband and our 26 year old son.

We have a home in Manzanillo and try spend as much time as possible there. I would offer a visit to our place (on the beach, with a pool) but we recently rented it out for a year so we won't be around.

Colima City is the capitol of the state of Colima. Beautiful architecture, a good museum, the adjoining town of Comala is wonderful- mariachi bands, tapas, drinks. You can also see the volcanoes from there. It's a neat trip but maybe too much for just a port stop.

I would recommend taking a taxi to either Las Hadas resort, (the movie '10" was filmed there) or if you are more adventurous- go to Playa Miramar and la Boquita. This is a long stretch of beach with many restaurants and bars. Lots of room to stretch out and relax. It is on the opposite side of the city from the port so you will get a tour of Manzanillo.

If you want a tour guide- we really like Federico (see above links). In fact, his ATV tour will get you out into the REAL Mexico.

Susan Deering at the Scuba Shack does a great snorkel tour.

While the port is under construction to make it cruiser friendly, don't stay downtown. I don't even go downtown!! Manzanillo is a working city, not touristy like Puerto Vallarta so you need to get out of the hub to really see what we have. Ignore the awful smoke from the energy plant, we are hoping it goes away in the next year or two.
