Taxi HELP Please

Hi there,

 

We will be in Portland on Sunday, October 4th, and are considering taking a taxi to get to an excursion we are possibly planning. Could someone out there please tell me approximately how much taxis cost? Do they charge by the mile, hour, etc.? When we get off the ship, will we be able to get one right away? I am assuming (but please confirm) that the rates are not negotiable like in the Caribbean, correct?

 

I hope someone will be able to give us some information, I really need to finalize what we will be doing in Portland and finding out taxi information is part of finishing the planning.
