Anyone ever broken down on Dune Buggy Tour?

We are considering taking the Dune Buggy tour from Island Marketing at the end of this month. Have heard the dune buggies are not too reliable and have been known to break down along the way and leave people stranded. Has this ever happened to anyone?

The buggy's are mechanical, they can and will at times fail, however you would never be left stranded, they have a lead car, and normally a tail car that are operated by the guides. The buggy tour or jeep tour are both great and you should give it a try.

  • 2 weeks later...

Our friends took this tour last week. They said it broke down but they had another buggy right away, at first they were disappointed because the new one had a top & they wanted an open top. On the way back they were thrilled because it was raining & they were the only ones to stay dry!

They loved the excursion.

We have been on this excursion twice and enjoyed it each time. The first time we went it was just the four of us, the next time we took other family members. They all had a blast. Never had a break down. The dune buggies are not what you would call in top notch shape, but that kind of makes them a little more fun.

We snorkeled for a bit. They also fix you a fabulous lunch on the beach. There was no "off roading" and no driving on the beach. We also loved the small group.

We did this also in January and had a great time. No breakdowns for us either. It was a small group too. The lunch was great and we went swimming while they were fixing it. They also kept the cooler stocked with water, soda's and beer! I wouldn't hesitate to go again.

They told us they were hoping to get some of the off road places back onto the schedule but they weren't ready when we were there.

Have a great time!

Yes, it happened to us in Cozumel. We booked thru Carnival and our dune buggy broke down in the middle of no where. It was working fine when we left the San Miguel and then it started to loose power little by little until we can't accelerate further and it died on us. All our fellow dune buggy riders had no problems with their and was speeding way fast, left us in the dust. They were no where in sight. We stood and waved for assitance but all other passengers via the jeeps and other vehicles went right passed us. But the good thing I had to say was the tour guide who rode in the back of the pack finally arrived and we screamed and wave for help and he stopped realizing we belong to his group. He gave us his buggy and we finally were able to catch up with the rest of the group.

It was great trip hadn't it the little incident. But I will not do it again.

I'd say rent a jeep and go on your own. We were in this litte tiny buggy when we could have been on 4-wheels jeeps, they looked great.
