Where to buy wine in Victoria

Victoria is the first stop on our 36 day cruise and we are interested in stocking up on some wines. Any help would be appreciated.

There is the Strath Wine Merchants in the Strathcona Hotel at 919 Douglas St. Harris Green Liquor Merchants at 930 View St. Swiftsure Beer and Wine, 427 Belleville, likely the closest to the Victoria cruise terminal.

The nearest govt liquor store, which isn't a very good one, is at the corner of Simcoe and Menzies (NE Corner)

 

If you grab a city (Oak Bay) bus or taxi, the govt Liquor store @ Fort and Foul Bay is excellent.

Thanks for the info. Looks like there are governmnet stores and independent stores. What's the difference between them?

For years in BC we could only purchase alcoholic beverages in a government liquor store. In recent years the government has licensed independent stores and these compete with the government stores. The independent stores are usually smaller and more expensive as the government controlls the product, so they rely on convienience and often carry some lines of wines that the government stores don't carrry. Alcoholic products are not available in grocery or convenience stores. Makes a lot of sense, doesn't it.:confused:

The independent stores usually have longer hours, colder beer and are open on Sundays and holidays.
