I grew up in Queens, a big suburb of NYC and moved out further on LI, so when I speak they know also. But I think most people think all of LI ( you know Lon Guyland)is part of NYC.

Usually just say Texas.... but I don't have any kind of southern accent... so people get that HUH look on their faces when they don't hear the southern accent and I come in and I tell them that I was born in Chicago and lived out of the country for 10 years and barely back in the states....
