qrunners Posted September 8, 2008 #1 Share Posted September 8, 2008 As a family of Runners, we are interested in exploring running routes at the following ports: Halifax, New Brunswick, Bar Harbor, Newport, & Boston. Any Suggestions? :)
SailBadtheSinner Posted September 9, 2008 #2 Share Posted September 9, 2008 I'll start it off with Newport, RI: I would suggest this route: South from the tender dock along Americas Cup Ave( rte 138A) then South on Thames St when Americas Cup Ave crosses it Right on to Wellington Ave and pass Ida Lewis YC http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ida_Lewis_(lighthouse_keeper) Wellington Ave becomes Halidon Ave, Take first right – Harrison Ave, Stay on Harrison Ave when it takes a right, Stay on Harrison (to the right) at the split, Side visit: as you pass Fort Adams State Park run in. http://www.fortadams.org/ Pass the Hammersmith Farm; Take a right onto Castle Hill Rd; When Castle Hill Rd “T’s”, go left onto Ocean Ave; Stay on Ocean Ave as it enters Brenton Point Stat Park; Pause there an enjoy the beautiful view; Stay on Ocean Ave, whenever there is a turn off from Ocean Ave, Keep to the right, Eventually you’ll connect with Bellevue Ave where all the mansions are Located; http://www.newportmansions.org/index.cfm As you run north on Bellevue, you will pass the mansions except for the Breakes which is one block east of Bellevue; When Bellevue intersects with rte 138A, make a left onto 138A and follow it to the Tender dock Distance: about 8 miles. hanlonm Posted September 9, 2008 #3 Share Posted September 9, 2008 My wife and I are going on the RCI Jewel in October and I have been doing some research. I have found out that at the Bar Harbor stop the Acadia National Park is a great place to run. They have "carriage" roads with no car traffic on them so it is a perfect place. You will have to dig a little to find out the terrain features, because it varies throughout. Hope this helps. Still trying to find something for the other stops. SailBadtheSinner Posted September 10, 2008 #4 Share Posted September 10, 2008 I agree with hanlonm about Acadia National Park & Bar Harbor being a great place to run. Here are 2 links that will provide a total of 4 routes for BH/ANP. http://www.runtheplanet.com/runningroutes/city.asp?c=1420756 http://www.run.com/city.asp?dest=Bar+Harbor+ME This site has good information on Acadia National Park & the carriage roads: http://www.acadia.national-park.com/ SBtS
qrunners Posted September 16, 2008 Author #5 Share Posted September 16, 2008 Thanks for the information! Very helpful. Does anyone know what Rockwood Park or Irving Nature park in St John New Brunswick is like? How far are they from the cruise ship dock? Anything else to do in St. John?
