airlink diva Posted September 11, 2008 #1 Share Posted September 11, 2008 I have some friends on the Smooth Jazz cruise and they were notified by their TA that due to the heavy damage in Grand Turk, that HAL changed them to Samana, Dominica Republic. Since I'm the true blue HAL cruiser, they come to me about this port. I don't know anything about Samana so I'm trying to see if anyone here visit this port. Is it good for a beach day or touring?? Happy sailing!!
wrp96 Posted September 11, 2008 #2 Share Posted September 11, 2008 You might post your question on the NCL board as I believe they have a few itineraries that stop in Samana regularly.
azkcruizers Posted September 11, 2008 #3 Share Posted September 11, 2008 When is the cruise they are going on? I wondered if it's on the Westerdam in January. If it is I'm surprised they decided already where they will go instead. I'm sailing on the Eurodam February 7 and was hoping Grand Turk would be recovered enough to return Karen:)
Hugh0906 Posted September 11, 2008 #4 Share Posted September 11, 2008 There isn't a lot else to do there. The bay is famous for being a whale breeding grounds. We took a snorkeling and sailing tour through the ship. Lovely mountainous landscape on the mainland. Cayo Levantado was a nice little private island, with some locals selling the usual stuff on the walkway to and from the ship. Krazy Kruizers Posted September 11, 2008 #5 Share Posted September 11, 2008 The only smooth Jazz cruise I see is the one on the Westerdam for January -- that is quite a distance away. I haven't heard of any changes for any other ships or itineraries.

I haven't heard of any changes for any other ships or itineraries. They are on the Dave Koz in November 2-9,2008. I was asked to join them, but I was already booked on the Maasdam. They were imformed my their TA and also by e-mail from the smooth jazz sponsers. wrp96 which NCL ship stop by there? I can go back and read reviews. Thanks! Happy sailing!!
