Louise45 Posted September 14, 2008 #1 Share Posted September 14, 2008 I just read a thread here that said "Carnival now has the "service charge" as well directly added to your room charge. Just like NCL." I'm new to NCL, what is the service charge? I thought all that was added was the $10 per day, per person.

Louise45 Posted September 14, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted September 14, 2008 I guess I took her comment wrong, I've cruised with Carnival and it's always been added, I thought she meant it was a 2nd charge. Thanks.
Rare ohioNCLcruiser Posted September 14, 2008 #4 Share Posted September 14, 2008 I read though that after Jan it will be $12 not $10.
MrLee Posted September 14, 2008 #5 Share Posted September 14, 2008 Hmmm...they still don't say anything about childrens rates being any lower. Quote: On all NCL ships payment of Pre- Paid Service Fee is required. A fixed Service Charge of $10 per person, per day will be added to your onboard account. For children ages 3-12, a $5 per person per day charge will be added to your onboard account: there is no charge for children under the age of three. (A fixed Service Charge of $12 per person, per day will be effective on January 1, 2009) Personally I don't think they should be lower since children are as much or more work than adults but they should clarify. On rethinking this a bit, maybe they are charging the same for children, thus the word "fixed".

There are still places with additional tips, just like all lines, the bar, and spa are two. Kids tips are $5. If you are sailing after Jan 1st, the charge will go to $12 per person. No other line has a lower rate for kids and let's face it, each line knows what the other is doing. Nita
