I have already asked this question on a couple of other threads but I am certain that other people will be asking. WHERE CAN YOU PARK AT THE BAYPORT TERMINAL? The google image shows minimal parking. They might have something built but it isnt' shown. Can anyone offer any advice?

There is a website on the new terminal, and parking is quite adequate. It is operated by the port authority, and price is $7 per day, and you have to pay cash or check, they don't take credit cards. I was told it would be $49 for the week.

Here are some links that I found helpful...

Use the address 12619 Port Road, Seabrook, Tx 77586 gets you close to the terminal

and I counted. Based on the picture showing there are only about 800 parking spots at the terminal. I am guessing that will be enough. We are going to take our chances I guess and hope that will be enough. We had considered leaving our car at Hobby and purchasing transfers

not sure where you saw the $7 per day at but direct from the link you have http://www.portofhouston.com/cruiseinfo/cruiseinfo.html it says

parking is $10 per day cash until Sept 22, and after that they will be accepting credit cards.

Parking for Ecstasy and Conquest Sailings:

The Bayport Cruise Terminal has extensive non-covered parking spaces, adjacent to the facility, for 800 automobiles. Parking rates are $10 per day. Please prepare to pay with cash on September 18-21, 2008. We will begin accepting all credit cards for sailings after September 22, 2008

Yesterday, and even earlier today, that link would have taken you to the old Barbours Cut Cruise Terminal information page, which did have parking at $7/day; they just updated for the Carnival Cruises.

The new Houston terminal did not have any cruise ships until Ike hit. They had just finished the terminal. It was not expected to be used so soon so Houston had not prepared to use the terminal. They were still in the mode of getting a cruise ship. In a matter of a few days they had two cruise ships and really were not prepared. It is going to be a bit rocky until they get the procedure down. They are having growing pains right now. They will resolve it but it will take time until they get it all down and operating.

The cost to park is $10 per day and soon they will be able to take credit cards. They have to get the equipment set up and working to take the cards. Evidentally they are having problems unloading and loading the ships as well as processing the pax. It is going to take awhile for them to fix the problems, which hopefully for their sake they will. Time will tell of course if they are up to it.

So for now, have patience. They are inexperienced and had little time to plan for the ships. Expect problems.

We were on the Ecstasy that sailed on the 20th which was the first to sail out of the new terminal.

As far as loading and unloading the ship, we watched from our cabin while waiting for muster drill and while waiting to debark and I thought everything went very smoothly. At least from what we could see. Check-in went very smoothly. I was very impressed considering they did not have computers. Carnival and/or the Port had lots of employees around and it was just very organized under the conditions. We were out of our taxi and on the ship in less than 30 minutes. Expecting a nightmare, we were extremely pleased. The parking may have been a little problem when the Conquest passengers came to board the next day. I know some cars were parked on the grass and I saw a nearby lot with quite a few cars that had a shuttle going back and forth.

As far as I know, they have handled this extremely well and problems that have occured may just be normal problems for any cruise. Hats of to Carnival and the Port of Houston for the excellant job they did for us and our fellow passengers!

We are going on a cruise our of Bayport in 2 weeks so we thought we would ride over there to make sure we knew where it was and check out the parking situation first hand

All of the parking was inside the fence and some of it was in the grass. There was a security guard at the fence and would not let us go in and drive around (good job!). There was also local police on Port Road and Todville Rd near the cruise terminal.

We also drove around the Kemah Boardwalk. Several restaurants are already open - Saltgrass, Ichi Bon, and Babin's seafood. They have the restaurants near the canal to Clear Lake fenced off and are obviously working on them.

There are also a lot of shops and small restaurants in the old houses near the Boardwalk that are open.

Gas was $2.99/gallon in the area.

Mark
