hstrybuf Posted October 28, 2004 #2 Share Posted October 28, 2004 The last I heard, the CD was Bret Alans. I didn't care for him, but maybe your MIL will.
staceyvols Posted October 28, 2004 #3 Share Posted October 28, 2004 It was Bret Alans in be end of Aug/beginning of Sept but, believe this or not, he was getting promoted. Not sure how or why. Don't remember any Candyman.
Cruise Mermaid Posted October 28, 2004 Author #4 Share Posted October 28, 2004 I just found out the guy (candyman) is named Christopher Graves - he does Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis ..... does that ring any bells ? My m-in-law says he's AWESOME ! :)
steveNcindy Posted October 28, 2004 #5 Share Posted October 28, 2004 Christopher Alan Graves - puts on a fantastic show. He was on the Legend in Feb when we went and he was fantastic. Not sure if he still is but hopefully as we are going again in Jan and would love to see him perform again.
Mike A Posted October 28, 2004 #6 Share Posted October 28, 2004 We just came off the 10/22 Legend CTN. Brett Alans was still CD. Never saw him except on the Morning Show on TV and the 2 Production shows. Chistopher Alan Graves did not perform. Since it was only a 2 nite cruise we only had the 2 Musical Productions and 2 Late Nite comedians who were fantastic. BTW,regarding Brett Alans promotion he refers to himself as "Senior Cruise Director"

BTW,regarding Brett Alans promotion he refers to himself as "Senior Cruise Director" OH! So he wasn't really being promoted. See, just not a funny guy. Dang near rude to passengers at times. I even wrote to Carnival to complain about him-and I'm really not a complainer, espeicially on a cruise. The timing of events was awful also. I guess it seemed more like it was a real promotion because the assistant CD was getting a CD job somewhere-announced on stage one night. Thanks for info! glrounds Posted October 28, 2004 #8 Share Posted October 28, 2004 I didn't care for Bret Alans either. Was embarrassed for him at times at his attempts to be funny. He may be a very nice guy, wouldn't know, didn't see him once on the ship other than the stage. I didn't go to the Christopher Graves show, but was told it was FANTASTICO ! ! :) The Carnival dancers are also TERRIFIC ! ! :) Great show ! ! Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted October 28, 2004 #12 Share Posted October 28, 2004 The only other entertainment info I have is that the Piano Bar guy is MIKE LAWLESS... reviews have been from mediocre to very good... Tom

Acutally he had previously had one and now was going back. Not sure what that is about. I didn't like him either. I guess it's all just a matter of opinion though. When we were on the Legend, the piano guy was good but it was his last week on cruise ships, so obviously he wasn't interested. He quit early every night. Too bad because he was really good, funny, nice, etc.
bocabrdwybabi Posted December 11, 2004 #14 Share Posted December 11, 2004 I just got off the Legend last Sunday. Brett Alans was still the CD or 'Senior CD' as he put it (USA). I didn't enjoy him at all. He was full of useless information and laughed at his own jokes which were actually pretty bad. His voice got on my nerves really quickly. No one in my family ever saw him around the ship. The assistant CD Brent aka 'Nancy' was pretty good (Canadian). He had a better sense of humor. The Social Host, Adam (Australia) was absolutely hilarious. Extremely outgoing and friendly. Jazz Hot was a really good show. Awesome vocalists. Moye and Jessica were the two that I met and they were extremely friendly and very talented. In Billie's Bar, Mike Lawless (Canadian) was the 'Piano Man', he was very friendly, extremely talented, and a cool guy. He let me sing while he played songs for me! :D Camp Carnival was great for kids up to 11. After that there aren't very many activities. :( Since it was around Thanksgiving, there weren't that many kids on the ship about 30. The average age was 59 on our cruise, but you have to look at the time of year. Our waitstaff in the dining room was great. Diana and Malcom were very friendly and gave us extremely fast service. Bosco, our room steward, did a wonderful job. Karaoke host, Tiana, can't sing. Overall the staff on the ship was excellent. The food was pretty great. I enjoyed the Piano Bar the most!!!! ~*Heather*~ Big Red Boat 5/99 Imagination 12/20/01 Legend 11/27/
Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted December 11, 2004 #15 Share Posted December 11, 2004 Yikes... average age was 59?? I felt the same way on the sailing the prior week (11/19/04) - yet with many kids added to the mix. I booked the week AFTER Thanksgiving next year to try to have BOTH fewer "canes and walkers" and fewer kids "under foot"... don't get me wrong here - older folks and kids are GREAT in my book... but I would like to find a cruise with the average age between 30 and 55 ... NOT where the "average" is UNDER 20 AND AT THE SAME TIME (!) OVER 55 !!! oh well... Tom

NOT where the "average" is UNDER 20 AND AT THE SAME TIME (!) OVER 55 !!!" ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Well, maybe you should hire your own yacht!! People who enjoy cruising are in ALL age groups. As for people over 55, most of us cruise on ALL the lines and ALL months and weeks of the year. Sorry, if we spoil your good time by being on the same ship. Bottom line - The cruise lines love the money we spend, and there is NO ESCAPING US. :D
Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted December 11, 2004 #17 Share Posted December 11, 2004 Hey CinWin... I too was a kid... and I too will be over 55 (if I am lucky enough, perhaps even 80 something:D ) As I said... "Don't get me wrong...." so I think I "covered" myself there... You must admit, if the AVERAGE age is 59, then that is an OLDER THAN TYPICAL passenger profile than MOST Carnival cruises. From what I have read of other lines - that sounds more like HAL! With a group like that - one finds that the NIGHTLIFE (Casino, Disco, etc..) is lackluster, and drops off early. I am NOT a "wild" person, but I do go on cruises to "let loose" to some extent. (Once again, in an attempt to "cover" myself, I realize that other people may well cruise to escape and RELAX - fair enough! We fit in plenty of relaxation too  ) Tom
soccrguy Posted December 11, 2004 #18 Share Posted December 11, 2004 Tom, i hope you realize you may have opened a can of worms .. I'm 56 and when I first read you post I kinda felt just like CINWIN... But then I thought ' it's all in how you feel.. When I cruise I SELDOM call it a nite before 1am and I'm usually up by 6am to workout.. which I do everyday so you didn't offend me at all... Don't worry CinWin is on the cruise wiht us and I'll try and calm her down.. I noticed you had room 4228, How did you like it.. I got in on ours>>>>>>>>
Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted December 11, 2004 #19 Share Posted December 11, 2004 soccrguy - The aft corners on Spirit class ships, specifically deck FOUR, are absolutely THE BEST cabins Carnival offers on ANY of their ships, IMHO :D We had 4228 on the Pride (same cabin layout as Legend). We most recently had 4237 on the Legend (opposite corner). Here is a link to our 4228 pictures: http://community.webshots.com/scripts/editPhotos.fcgi?action=viewall&albumID=113655948 Those are interior pictures... --------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is a link to an exterior shot (from someone else) that I found on Webshots - you will be able to see 4228 in the side of the picture - and more easily see 4237. You will notice that those aft cabins on Deck 4 have more coverage above them (overhang). You will still be able to get plenty of sun if desired - but will also have (at times) a protected shady area to sit and RELAX (!) and unwind : http://community.webshots.com/photo/212120041/212125462abELfk -------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is a link to our most recent Legend Cruise : http://community.webshots.com/album/230540680zaHEkv ------------------------------------------------------------------- From all of those links, when you have the pictures up, you can click below the picture to VIEW FULL SIZE, and can thus zoom in on details if you desire. I hope you all have a GREAT time on your cruise! We were rained out in 2 of 3 ports (Martinique and Barbados) - are you going Southern or Western? steveNcindy Posted December 12, 2004 #21 Share Posted December 12, 2004 Cindy and Pat - can Cin and I join you in the disco too (but Pat - pleeease no 6am wakeup calls!!!!!):D I am not much of a dancer but I do make a good drink fetcher while everyone else is dancing. I see in bocabrdwybabi's review there are a few Canadian staff on board - will feel right at home. I met Brent last year on our cruise and he is a great guy and very friendly. bocabrdwybabi Posted December 29, 2004 #23 Share Posted December 29, 2004 Yeah the average age really was 59 when I was on there. Brett actually said that. I have pictures from that cruise. There's a lot of Mike Lawless because the piano bar was my favorite place. http://community.webshots.com/album/227700616nsgAZQ Hopefully that'll show you some of the places around the ship. My uncle got married on there so that's why a lot of the chapel and Medusa's Lair is on there.
