MANDAN Posted September 20, 2008 #1 Share Posted September 20, 2008 We will be on the Quest next May (Athens to Rome) and we plan to stay in Athens for two nights prior to the cruise. Is there train service from Athens to the ship in Piraeus. If no train, what is the easiest way to get to Piraeus.
Susan-M Posted September 20, 2008 #2 Share Posted September 20, 2008 The metro (subway) goes from Athens to the port in Piraeus. Will you be staying in the historical area of Athens? It's a 20-25 minute walk from the metro station in Piraeus to the cruise pier, but you could take a taxi or bus from the station to the pier. The Europe/Mediterranean forum has some recent threads on this that you might find helpful.
brian_uk Posted September 21, 2008 #3 Share Posted September 21, 2008 We were at The Marriott and we took a taxi from the hotel direct to the Port and the cost was 15 Euros. Your luggage is taken directly from you and you then only have to check in. Brian

Go to the roll calls and make sure you sign up for the cruise critic party on Azamara's web site. The boards have been really quiet on our cruise. new salt Posted September 29, 2008 #5 Share Posted September 29, 2008 Having just got back (last night) from a cruise that included Athens and, having used the metro, I would suggest that you get a taxi from your hotel to the port. It should not cost more than €20 -25 from a central hotel. The metro is good but requires a change of trains to get to Piraeus and the cruise terminal is a long way (3/4 mile) from the metro station, which is positioned to serve the ferry services. I would think standing on the crowded pavement with a pile of luggage trying to grab a taxi might not be a good idea!
world~citizen Posted October 1, 2008 #6 Share Posted October 1, 2008 We have to agree. Ask your hotel to organize a cab for you. It really isn't that expensive and it is a stress free way to go - and avoiding stress is what a vacation is all about.:)
