Too much OBC????

You may call C&A to verify your OBC credits. We always do. YOu should note that any OBC from a TA may not show on the records that they have access to. Apparently OBC from the TA is handled differently or the TA does not apply it until the last minute. It still will show up on your onbard statement, usually by the second day.

None of my OBC is through a travel agent. I received $100 during a WOW sale and the rest is from mine and DH's RCCL Visa card.

It makes sense that it be returned to you in cash if it is substantial because they do not want to credit a large sum back to a CC and would you want them to? what if you are using a different card, you also will lose reward points or miles........the simplest way for all concerned with a large amount is to cash out, my guess. it is a benefit to them as well.

 

I am glad to hear this as I have a large OBC this trip and have paid for everything and I really do not think we will be drinking that much, gambling???????But I'll cash out with the purser the 3 extra dollars might make a difference on a jackpot;)

By the way, twice we have had small amounts under $25 credited back to our card.

 

OBCs can easily be credited back to your credit card you have on file. In fact, we had a large credit on a European booking that we decided to change and it automatically was credited back to our RC VISA and no points were ever deducted.

 

Most folks want the cash.

But we were told on the Explorer earlier this month that we now need to take it in cash which we did. However, there was still $11 in the account and that was credited to our cc. As someone said earlier, if you don't go on your own to guest relations, they will page you.

 

We were on the June 28th sailing of Explorer. I had a decent amount left over; I had forgotten to "claim" it.

 

If they say you have to take it in cash, then why did they credit it back to your cc? To me, that means you don't have to take it in cash.

We are getting back $615 OBC and we do not put the tips on the credit card, we like to pay it in cash and give it to the person. This way it is not split up and it gets to the right person. We usually bring money for this, and then cash out to get the OBC. WE then use this to pay for the next cruise .... We never spend that much anymore while on board, or it is used to pay for excursions.... so this way I do not feel like it is coming out of my expenses.... feels good to get money back for spending on my visa, andbooking while onboard and using a ta that gives back some obc. It all adds up and it cost me nothing to get this. We never rack up much of a bill... do not need to double the price spa ( we have so many spas where I live if I wanted to go), drinks only add tons of calories and no way am I getting off the ship heavier after I work out daily to not be heavy, and pictures we have so many at this point, we usually just buy one to mark the kids differences...but lately they are no where to be found with friends on each cruise. I just do not get how people spend so much money ...someone said they spend 500 a day for 2 people without the spa? Pls tell me what you spend it on and have you ever had buyers remorse when you got the bill? I personally see what ever i do not spend as money towards going away again.

If what we were told on the Explorer is true, they no longer credit large sums back to your credit card, you must take it in cash.

You can never have to much OBC. I will have $750 between my two cabins to spend but after gratuities, I will only have $400 for a 9 night cruise. I doubt I will have any left and I dont gamble or drink much.

I also suggest if your OBC is from a TA, bring along proof of the offer in case it does not show up. I come prepared but have never had a problem getting my OBC by the second day.

Last week on the Jewel transatlantic we were told that the excess OBC could only be gotten with the 3% fee charged either by the purser's desk or the casino. Only way you could avoid the fee was having the excess OBC credited back to your credit card. We argued that this was our money (VISA credits, etc.,) but to no avail. You either had to pay the 3% fee or have it refunded to the card. Doesn't seem fair to pay 3% fee for your own money.

Cash it out on the second last night, as the lines on the last night are usually very long at the desk with people settling their accounts if they did not choose a Credit Card payment.

Wow - I feel like a super cheapskate here. :o My total on-board bill was under $500 - for each cruise. And on the last one, I bought my son a $300+ watch!! I don't gamble, and rarely have time to drink on the ship, so any money we spend during the cruise, is spent mostly during our excursions.

It isn't fleetwide yet, but heading that way. Be prepared face a 3% charge or an ATM fee, unless you bring cash.

Purser is historically and the correct term for shipboard. However, most tourists/pax are unfamiliar with the term and grok Guest Services/Relations better.

My husband, son and I had a pretty good size OBC in April...and to be honest, we had trouble spending it :). So, on the 2nd to last day of the cruise when we saw a big chunk of it still sitting there, we decided to pay our gratuities with it.
