Lookout Point in Skagway

I know that lookout point is on a small highway at the top of a hill. from the lookout you can look down into Skagway and out into Lynn Canal

 

This may be a bit of an obvious question, but can you walk to the lookout in a reasonable amount of time?

 

I can't seem to recall how high up the hill/mountain the lookout is located or how far away it is.

It's two years ago that I walked up there and I didn't pay attention on how far it was... But I guess it took us between 30 and 45 minutes (one way).

I think there is also a bus if you don't have enough time to walk.

 

By the way:There must be another nice walk to the Gold Rush cemetery and Reid Falls, about 1,5 miles from the dock.

Sparrow must be thinking of a different lookout - the one the tour buses go to that overlooks the town is well over 3 miles from the docks, so I'd say a 4-hour round trip walk.

It's about a half-hour walk. Take the footbridge across the Skagway River at the south end of the airport, and then walk uphill on the trail to the Dyea Road. When you get to the Dyea Road, just walk north to the lookout.
