Collection of Cruise Cards when Disembarking

Noooooo!!

DS and DD have their cards from every cruise. Hmmmm, I wonder why a CL would collect them?

The common opinion is that it was ordered by port security. My point in asking is just to see if other cruise lines were experiencing the same thing. So far I haven't heard of the others doing likewise.

Hello,

Recently ( April '08 ) while on our B2B cruise on the Grandeur we had engine problems & arrived back to Baltimore about 8 hrs late. Leaving the ship was a complete nightmare. After about an hour or so of confussion, they started to collect our sea pass to speed up the process of disembarking & was going to check all the passengers out at the same time. This needed to be completed before the next cruise could start their boarding.

Enjoy your upcoming cruises/vacations.

Joyce & Of Course Harvey

I have never had to turn in my RCI card but I did have to turn in one for Princess but that was a couple of years ago. Have sailed Princess recently Nov /07 and did not have to turn it in.

The only ship that asked for our sea pass card at the end ot the sailing was the Navigator of the Seas......on a transatlantic last year.

I didn't even question it.........just thought the RCCL had emplimented a new program........maybe recycling plastic!! On the next cruise, I found out that I was wrong!!

So, of all of the cruises since the sea passes were started (do you remember the days of the cabin keys??) I think that we have most of them.

Rick, I do remember the old days of the cabin keys. I also remember the old plastic Ving card keys that Carnival used prior to implementing the use of your Sail and Sign card as a key.

Do the Princess cards perhaps not carry names or anything specific to the passenger or the room? If not, perhaps they are reissuing them to future passengers-similar to a hotel card key-just reprogramming the magnetic strip to the next passenger...where as the RC cards have names/numbers identifiable to the room/passenger...even if Princess weren't to get ALL the cards back on EVERY cruise, even if they were to get half of them back, then that's half the cards they have to replace...

I just looked at my last Princess card........very name specific, with cabin number and Captains Club status. However....that is going back a few years!!:D

The latest ones only provide name, status & dinning room seating option although it wouldn't take much to figure out which cabin door they open.

This past August we did a B2B on Sovereign. While we were checking in for the second half of the B2B, the woman who had been escorting us thru the B2B process (guest services director) came back and asked us for our old (first part of B2B) SeaPass cards. She said she had forgotten to collect them. She said if we wanted them back as a souvenir, she would send them to us on the morning of disembarkation, but we could not have them during the second half of the B2B. She did not elaborate the reason for this, and I didn't feel comfortable asking. Maybe a security issue?

I usually de-magnetize at least one Seapass per cruise, and I keep the dead one because the ships can't print "Diamond Plus" on the replacements. I want proof for the day when the C&A website finally crashes completely!:p

Have never had to turn in a card on Princess or RCI.

Recently Princess cruise ships have begun to collect the cruise cards when disembarking some of their ships. Has anyone on RCI had a similar experience lately?

What ships, what sailings?

Yes, a few years ago my card was collected on Princess.

Also my GF's card was collected on RCI when she disembarked early.

Most cruise line will collect it if you are leaving the ship before the cruise is over.

If I recall correctly it was mostly California ports but I've reading about lots others since I posted this message on Celebrity, Carnival & NCL.
