Hello,

we are cruising the Carnival Victory in a few weeks with our 9 month old; since she can not swim in th epool, we want to take in some beaches at ports; we will visit St-Thomas and St-Martin.

Any recommendations for beaches for us; we need calm waters & shade, basically!!!

Thanks!

We went to Magen's Bay in St. Thomas. A beautiful beach, shady trees, tables, restrooms with showers (fresh water, no less!)- it was perfect. We got there around 10am, and it didn't start to get crowded until around 1, when we were ready to leave, anyway. It cost us $8 pp to take a taxi, and then another $3 to get in (it's a National Park). Princess wanted $25 pp for the same thing. Have a wonderful, relaxing time.:D

I would recommend Megan's bay in St. Thomas also.

You may want to think about a portable tent for your 9 month old. They are small like an umbrella and open to a good size . They will provide shade and a place to sleep for the baby.

Take the boat taxi to St John from St Thomas. It leaves from the dock and returns regularly. St John is MUCH less crowded and MUCH more relaxed. You will enjoy yourself a lot more and enjoy the boat ride over and back. Plenty of beaches and patio restaurants there too. We especially like to each at Pusser's Rum and have a "Painkiller".

Best Wishes, S.

In St. Maarten, take a cab to Le Galion Beach. It's near the butterfly farm. Make sure to secure your round trip transportation, as this is not a touristy beach.

Some others at the pier overheard a driver recommending this beach and joined us.

Just to give you some perspective, there were 3 ships in port that day, so maybe 6500 people loose on the island. There were about 10 others on the beach with us.

It's in a cove so the water is VERY calm and clear. You can, however, see the ocean beyond the breakwater. The water is also very shallow. I'd say no more than 3 -3 1/2 feet and you could walk out for quite a while and it just never got deeper.

It's a great beach for families with small children!

There's a restaurant there and restrooms. They have windsurfing.
