Sen Posted October 10, 2008 #1 Share Posted October 10, 2008 Hi, my name is Sen and I had some questions about Tappanyaki on the Jewel. 1) I would like to know the quality of the food . 2) What is recommended?
prg2101 Posted October 10, 2008 #2 Share Posted October 10, 2008 The food is great in tepp. They serve the same style food as Benihana's. Salad, Soup, Grilled Veggies, choice of meat or seafood, rice, etc....Its a great experience:D
travel_lover Posted October 10, 2008 #3 Share Posted October 10, 2008 It's delicious and worth the extra price, it might seem like much to people but what you pay on the ship is a steal to what you pay going to a teppanyaki on land....trust me! terrymtex01 Posted October 10, 2008 #5 Share Posted October 10, 2008 We can't speak for the Jewel, as we have never been onboard her.. but.. we have been on three NCL cruises and always eat at Tappanyaki and it has always been delicious and well worth the extra charge. Seeing the food cooked like that right in front of you is great fun too. One thing I would caution is, do NOT wear clothes that are very important to you when you go to eat there. Several times both when eating at Tappanyaki and eating at the same style of restaurant here in Dallas we have gotten oil splattered on our clothes from them slapping the spatula down on the cooking surface. SuzyLovesNCL Posted October 11, 2008 #6 Share Posted October 11, 2008 I agree with the clothes issue, but more because they end up smelling like the food, no matter how well the grill is vented. Order whatever looks good to you - I've had most of the menu on my meny trips with NCL. Oh, and be sure to try the green tea ice cream for dessert. On our last cruise I got my nephew totally hooked and he went back every night for the rest of the cruise just to get ice cream! No clue how much he tipped the Maitre'D, but he always came back with four bowls!

watchdiva Posted October 12, 2008 #8 Share Posted October 12, 2008 It's a fun experience, the chefs do try to put on a good show.....My favorite is the shrimp and (IIRC) chicken and the fried rice is good as well. It's well-worth the money IMO.
iamausername Posted October 12, 2008 #9 Share Posted October 12, 2008 Are there vegetarian options at this restaurant?
sarahvch Posted October 12, 2008 #10 Share Posted October 12, 2008 yes there are vegetarian options however if you are one of those people that does not want you vegetables cooked on the same frill as the meat you are out of luck. They will keep them away from the meat for you.

Not much help huh? Nita
DMH15 Posted October 12, 2008 #13 Share Posted October 12, 2008 Last cruise I did 100% lobster and veggies - the best - on one of the nights!!! Also, had been to sushi bar earlier in the day and had had a sushi with caramelized nuts on top. Talked them into some on my green tea ice cream. Everyone at my table then asked for some too. It really makes it great! Oh, I wished I had stopped them from squirting my steak with some soy sauce while it was on the grill. Next time I will ask in advance. Enjoy!!!! Kathylovescruises Posted October 12, 2008 #14 Share Posted October 12, 2008 We had a blast- the food was good and we met some WONDERFUL folks at our table- it is well worht th efee. What we didn't likeon the jewel was the one ( can't remeber) where you boil the food in broth- too much salmonella, too dangerous fro little guys. But the Teppanyaki was a hoot1 Kathy
