Group Cruise Alert!!!

(Laura said it was OK to post this here)

Have you booked a cruise that has been also booked by 700 mimes, cage fighters, or political activists, or some other group you would just as soon know about before you booked? Or maybe you were delighted to be accompanied by 900 comedians, porn stars, or magicians?

Regardless, this is a place to alert your fellow pax when you come across a large group cruise.

It's free, easy, and no sign up or email is required. :)

It's also rudimentary.

Hopefully, as people post in it, it will become useful.

Please...

... Do not be unkind.

... Do not advertise or try to drum up sales.

1994, I booked 790 passengers aboard a Celebrity Ship (back when they were unprofitable and before they were ruined by RCCL) sailing the Eastern Caribbean. This was a college football alumni group, destined for Miami at the end of a week at sea to attend a game at the Orange Bowl with their team and the University of Miami. I believe that we were a well-behaved group, though the participants like to dress in the team colors and we had an event in the show lounge that was quite raucous.

We also maintained a hospitality desk for much of our time at sea for members of the group to check on activities and events we were coordinating. I remember one morning that someone had taken the time to make a banner-sized note for us with the message "you people need to get a life" on it. I have this framed in my office now.

Now this was at a time when Celebrity catered to more of a European Clientele, a much more 'mature' and (do i dare say) stodgy crowd. Once again, I don't think our group was out of line in any way, but when one group takes over 1/2 the vessel, the experience can't help to be colored by the fact that over 50% of the passengers have a common theme and experience.

I think a website like the one mentioned above is a great idea. A couple years ago I placed a group at a hotel in Detroit which happened to be hosting a group called the Assyrians (exiled Iraqis). I've never seen such an unruly group in my life, putting cigarettes out on the carpet, yelling in the hallways, hassling some of the younger women in the group. I always check now when booking a large group to make sure the Assyrians are not in the same place at the same time as they hold a large convention every year.

This is a great idea for a thread...just what I was looking for..I was part of a group of nearly 900 Bingo Players....for us it was just the opposite for the rest of the passengers...we played Bingo for most of the day while at sea and there were 4 sea days....leaving the pools, chairs, and virtually every other area on the ship quite empty...Lucky for them...most players were older and did not party at night, so the bars were quiet too...so with some groups the other passengers win and others they loose...so from my perspective any group with a large number will and can distrub your cruise I just need a "heads up" about it..
