Zone Jumpers - self disembark

Recommended Posts

I'm more annoyed by the folks who are obviously doing self-assist, but don't go when they call self-assist. They slow down the line with their six suitcases & never seem to be in control of their stuff. They're so fun when they try the escalator or have to dig for their passport at the customs line.

Hehehe!! I'll never forget someone I saw who was doing "self disembark" on one of my cruises, and he was wearing THREE rather LARGE sombreros on his head, at the same time!:D:rolleyes: The guy had NO free hands-he was pulling 2 suitcases, and his wife was pulling 2 suitcases, and they had a few kids running around, holding stuff too!

Sometimes the jumpers think they can get off quick, get their bags, and avoid the massive lineups at customs....NOT if their bags are not offloaded yet, and if it is by the numbers....well, they B waiting..

I love this.

When I travel alone I get a late flight and stay on as long as I can. But, one the last cruise I had a free flight but had to take a really early flight. It was a Princess cruise. We all got in line to debark. Some ladies with numbers cut in line. Walk offs had a card to walk off. When we entered the long number were told to sit and walk offs to continue. This ladies keep walking. When we got to the staging are they were just starting to bring in bins of luggage and none were set out yet. We were even routed to a different area. Those ladies weren't happy. They had to go back to a whole different are an stand around waiting for the luggage.

Although I'm sure it happens on regular disembarking, we tried self-disembarking this past Monday and I couldn't believe how many people "jump the zones." The cruise director made much noise about going only when your zone was called, but as we waited the deck on the deck above for our numbers to be called we had a bird's eye view and saw MANY people leaving before their zone was called. Zones 1-3 were called first, but we saw 8, 12, 23, you get the picture. I was Zone 17 and another cruiser was Zone 19 (I think) and began the call out the jumpers. It was pretty funny. We weren't obnoxious or anything just "gently reminding" them that they were jumping the lines. :p

The CD was standing there the whole time and we asked him why if he was calling certain zones he was letting everyone else go. He just shrugged his shoulders and then ignored us the rest of the time. We then asked the asst. CD who was also there on the floor why they make rules and then let everyone ignore them. He made some excuse about trying to clear out the floor. I really think they're just playing the odds that most people won't line jump and they really don't care who goes when. Who knows but it was such a mess of passengers and bags.

It was very frustrating to say the least. What this an anomaly or is self-disembarking like this all the time? You see the same folks who were happy the day before on the Lido deck jostling their bags and being mean to people. I think we'll go back to regular disembarking because this last fiasco just put such a nasty ending on what had been a lovely vacation.

Oh yeah, and we saw the honeymooners from the Newly Married Game (whatever its called) line jumping. So disappointing! (I guess I felt like we knew them or something. ;) )

You can't expect 1 or 2 people to control a mob of morons and idiots who think the rules don't apply to them. Nobody would listen anyway.

Sooner or later, cruise lines will have to set up strict crowd control and we'll all be debarking through a Disney snake line......with monitors who will check the zone and a system of lines that will narrow down to single file. Just like adolescents.

As usual, it's the idiots who eventually make it tough on everyone.

I haven't read this whole thread, so I apologize if this was brought up already, but on my Feb Princess cruise, they did a quiet debarkation. We just went to the designated area at the designated time, and employees escorted us to get off the ship. Nothing was announced on the loud speaker the whole morning. Everyone had a designated place to be at a certain time. It was the most relaxing way to get off the ship. I'm not sure how the self-assist went, because we set out our luggage the night before, but I think it was the same concept.

I've been on slef assist debarkations that were very orderly & those that were total chaos. I think it just depends on whether you're cruising with civilized people or a bunch of barberians. My last self assist debarkation was on the Conquest & it was so bad I'll never, ever try it again.

We did the self assist yesterday on the Victory, no problem. We walked to the elevator when they called self assist. We had no lines--no problem!! We were off the ship and out of customs in less then 10 minutes!!! We got to the airport and caught a much ealier flight. Will try this again in the future.
