Great Stirrup Cay snorkel?

Having never been to NCL's private island, we are wondering if we just get off the ship and use our own snorkel gear at the beach there, or do we have to sign up for their snorkel excursion?

I would get my own if I were you. They do have snorkel equipment there for about 29 dollars for the day.
