beachbabe246 Posted April 17, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 17, 2004 My fiancee and I will be going on a cruise for our honeymoon next June. We live in Dallas so were planning to take the rhapsody out of galveston. I have been on three RCCL cruises in the past but he has never cruised. I was just wondering....is the rhapsody pretty unimpressive compared to the voyager or radiance (I think thats what they are called)class ships? Since he has never been on a cruise I want him to be amazed by the expereince and I am worried that the rhapsody wont do it. I am now considering the Mariner which goes to the W. Caribbean and leaves out of Port Canaveral. Any help on either the rhapsody or mariner would be really appreciated!

wallie5446 Posted April 17, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 17, 2004 bb, Sorry, forgot to answer your main question. There is a lot more going on with a Voyager Class Ship, the crem de la crem ! But the Rhapsody is full of Texans and one of the best an friendliest staff's we have ever had out of 14 Cruises, on 7 diff lines. joycemh Posted April 19, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 19, 2004 The Rhapsody is an older ship, but is well maintained and a really beautiful ship. You can't beat the staff and crew. I have been on the Rhapsody three times now and am planning on going again. I also like her size, not too big. Joyce
shmthaus Posted April 19, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 19, 2004 The Rhapsody was built in 1997 and is a smaller ship than those that you have previously sailed, but she is a great ship. We have sailed her once and will be sailing her again after her drydock in November. Don't worry about the differences between ships, just enjoy yourselves. bakal Posted April 19, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 19, 2004 We just returned yesterday from the Rhapsody. It was in very good shape. There was so many activities and things to do we could not do it all. The voyager was docked next to us in Cozumel. It is some what longer (not too much though) and taller then the Rhapsody. We were both turned away in Grand Cayman, only the smaller Carnival ships were able to tender there. So that was disappointing. The pool had to be drained on Wed. since we had 8-10 foot seas most of the trip. The staff did a great job of coming together and planning extra activities on the day we were supposed to go to Grand Cayman. I would sail again in a heart beat, might try the voyager class if we can afford it. We had a larger inside stateroom for the 4 of us and had no problem with unloading our 7 suitcases plus carry-ons. I was very impressed with the number of drawers and closet space as well as the larger bathroom (it was bigger than the bathroom on our 25 ft travel trailer!). The Captain retired with our cruise so a new one was starting with the next sailing. I was suprised that more activities were not done regarding this since this was his last sailing. Glad you had a nice voyage Would you mind telling us what stateroom you were in and its condition? It seems that many have said the inside staterooms show alot of wear and could use to be updated... just trying to imagine what to expect in June!~ Thanks A '95 Carnival Sensation 4/28/97 RCCL Sovereign of the Seas 7/01 Celebrity Horizon 6/02 Norwegian Sea 6/22/03 Disney Wonder ... till 6/20/04 Rhapsody of the Seas

FlorenceItaly Posted April 20, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 20, 2004 I am considering a last minute cruise on the Rhaposdy. What are my reasonably priced transportation options when arriving at Houston Hobby?? From what I can tell RCI offers transfers from IAH, but in looking at Southwest, no times would work for flying into IAH. Did I read somewhere where Enterprise offers one way from Houston Hobby?? Any information you can share with me is appreciated. Flying in the day before is not an option due to a graduation committment. Capt. Mike Posted April 21, 2004 #15 Share Posted April 21, 2004 We will be sailing on the Rhapsody on June 13 along with many friends and family to celebrate my son's wedding onboard while we are in Key West. Then we all get to go with them on their honeymoon for the rest of the week! Oh joy! Actually they plan a Windjammer cruise for the "real" honeymoon later in the fall. mongo Posted April 21, 2004 #16 Share Posted April 21, 2004 wife and i did the rhapsody for the mardi gras cruise over the end of feb this year. while she may be old, she sure aint tired. staff was great, food was bettern what i can get locally, and the ships entertainment troupe was the best i have ever seen. would have no hesitation to rid eher again, if the selections of ports of call would ever vary. mikey9473 Posted April 22, 2004 #17 Share Posted April 22, 2004 I read a few posts back that the ship was turned away in Grand Cayman....was there some special circumstance that caused that? What did they do about shore excursions you'd paid for?
Capt. Mike Posted April 22, 2004 #18 Share Posted April 22, 2004 We have been turned away from the Cayman's more than once because of rough weater. You will be tendered since little dock space exists. You always get your excursions refunded if you bought them through RCCL. bakal Posted April 22, 2004 #19 Share Posted April 22, 2004 We were in Cabin 3073. The seas were 8-10 feet for most of the cruise. We seemed to follow a storm to key west then partially around Cuba. It was still very windy and rough seas but the sun finally came out to stay. We knew it was a possibility that Grand Cayman would be cancelled but we were hopeful. We booked out shore excursions thru royal caribbean so we just got a credit on our seapass account. The port cancelled us and Voyager, some of the smaller carnival ships were able to tender there though. If Grand Cayman had a dock it would have been okay but to tender everyone in with the seas as rough as they were was a safety issue.
