Millenium and Silver Cloud cruise ships call at Papeete

(Tahitipresse) - Celebrity Cruises' 1,950-passenger Millenium and Silversea Cruises' 296-passenger Silver Shadow spent Friday in Papeete Harbor before continuing their voyage.

The Celebrity Millenium arrived from Alaska and Honolulu for a stopover at Bora Bora in the Leeward Islands and Tahiti's sister island of Moorea before anchoring next to downtown Papeete, where it received a traditional welcome from a Marquesan dance group.

The ship, with 85% of its passengers American, is headed for New Zealand and Australia for a series of cruises. The Celebrity Millenium is due back in French Polynesia next April with calls at Papeete, Moorea and Bora Bora en route to Honolulu.

The much smaller capacity Silver Shadow left Papeete Harbor Friday for a brief visit to the Tuamotu atoll of Rangiroa and the Marquesas Islands, continuing its 110-day cruise around the world that began on Jan. 16 from Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The Silver Shadow is part of the Silversea Cruises fleet that includes the 132-passenger expedition ship Prince Albert II of Monaco that is due to be based in Papeete for six months starting in late March.

The Prince Albert will operate five 11-day Austral Island Adventures cruises, four 14-day Journeys to the Marquesas and five 10-dayTuamotu Expeditions.
