andio2of5 Posted November 1, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 1, 2008 Hi......Before boarding the Star Princess in San Francisco on Oct 21, we were fascinated by this boat docked between Pier 39 and Pier 35. There were no markings on it...really curious about it...does anybody have any info on it? Rumors were that it belonged to Larry Ellison. Splinter Posted November 1, 2008 #6 Share Posted November 1, 2008 This is the first USA port for this megayacht which is the personal yacht of one of the billionaires to come out of Silicone Valley. His name is Tom Perkins and you can read his story in a book called "Mine's Bigger: Tom Perkins and the Making of the Greatest Sailing Machine Ever Built ". The yacht is named the Maltese Falcon and you can learn more about the unique design and rigging (built in Turkey) on their website. http://www.symaltesefalcon.com/index2.asp If you want to rent the boat for a week, it will run you $325,000 to $335,000. The boat sleeps 12: http://www.europaluxury.com/yacht/to-rent/288-ft-maltese-falcon.html I read the book right after also reading "Three Cups of Tea"...what a contrast between an ultimately very self-centered and selfish person and a person who gives everything for others.... nna Posted November 1, 2008 #8 Share Posted November 1, 2008 the ship was sitting just off sausalito for several weeks (we sailed around it one day) and then sometime in the first part of october, some stupid captain of a small boat t-boned it--rammed into the side of the ship--so they brought it over to pier 39 area--I suppose it is there to be ready to be repaired. tom perkins lives in belvedere--in the area and he brought the ship near his home to do a bunch of charity events on it. he was going to sell it for $280 million-but we heard that it was not for sale currently. we saw it sailing into the gate and it was uber impressive...
