KCcruisin07 Posted November 8, 2008 #3 Share Posted November 8, 2008 Does anyone have any recommendations on what to do in Split? Thanks Debbi Split is a compact picturesque town. There are guided tours available through Life Jacket Tours (lifejacketadventures.com/croatia), but if you like you can do everything on your own. We wandered through alleys in the Diocletian Palace, which is actually more like a walled city, and entered the Cathedral of St. Dominus, where they were actually conducting services. Then we walked through the old town. Leaving the Palace area and bearing left we walked up Marjan hill with beautiful views of the Adriatic, the ship, and the marina. The homes below became larger and more elaborate. My husband and I took turns taking pictures. On the way back we took a different walk and ended up at a plaza with a flag and a beautiful view of many other islands. Note to parents: we passed a zoo. We then ended up on the opposite side of town where there were not many English speaking people. We did see shops, restaurants, and a bakery with an excellent apple pastry. On our return we stopped by the seaside promenade and rested on the benches after a pleasant day. This did involve a very lengthy walk, and another option would have been the City, Archaological, and Ethnographic Museums and/or lunch after the Palace. Rare taxatty Posted November 9, 2008 #4 Share Posted November 9, 2008 Try a bus tour to nearby Trogir, a pretty little waterfront town with a beautiful small cathedral. There is not that much to see in Split itself other than the aforementioned palace. Les
