Doggfan, I disagree with you. I am as thrifty as anyone I know and do NOT find the prices outrageous. Maybe 10-15% over home prices. And I live in are relatively low cost city. I WOULD never want to do my own laundry on a nice vacation.

Ditto Gene.....I've done some laundry on The Carnival Destiny & Pride. It was very handy, but I did waste some time. The one thing that was nice on Carnival was the complimentary iron and ironing board. That came in handy on formal nights. icon_biggrin.gif

I use the laundry service on board. It is a matter of convenience to me. If you get right down to it, a lot of things on board that we spend money on could be considered a waste. I'm on vacation and that does not mean counting my pennies. It means having a good time and not worrying about such silly things.

Agree, laundry is not what I want to do on vacation. However, I got soot all over my favorite shorts (white) the first day of my first cruise. It did not even occur to me that soot was an issue on the deck chairs (SS Norway). So, yes, I did splurge and pay to have them cleaned, as I planned to wear them again - they were so clean and nicely pressed that I didn't recognize them!

I too do not think the prices are outrageous. We have been to Europe twice on twelve day cruises and it was much easier to use the laundry than pack the extra clothes. Esp. with the strict weight requirements on luggage now.

I prefer it when there are washers and dryers to use on board, but on ships where there isn't, we've used the laundry service. An example is when our family of 4 went on a 12 day cruise in the hot Caribbean. That's a lot of clothes to bring unless you plan to have some stuff cleaned.

Hi,

We used them on our two week back to back cruises a year ago.

The clothes came back the next day, looking great, and it was worth it.

We are a family of four going on an Alaskan cruise in June. We will be doing some active outdoor excursions and I am sure my 12 and 14 year olds will get dirty. With the heavier sweats and jeans necessary for Alaska a self serve laundry on board would really be a conveinience to me. I used the laundry on the Carnival Triumph and it took very little time away from my vacation. I know I'm on vacation but for four people the "Royal" laundry prices are quite high. I'd rather do my own laundry and spend my money on shopping!
