We used "driverinrome.com" for both Rome and Florence / Pisa. I cannot recommend them highly enough! Check out the website. They'll go wherever you want to go and will give you as much "guidance" as you want or don't want (i.e. will go into sites with you to explain them, or will wait outside.)

You give a credit card number to reserve, but you do not pay until the tour is completed.

The person in charge is Danielle and he speaks English fluently so you can e-mail him with all of your questions.

Even if you took their tour with two people, you'd get more for your money than the ship's excursions. If you can find others on your sailing to share the tour, it's an incredible value. We posted a notice on the "Celebrity Connections" roll call board and easily found people to share.

Using a "licensed" or "certified" guide in Italy means you can bypass ticket lines, which will save you time. Not all guides fall into this category (i.e. the people on the street offering their services), so I recommend you go with a reputable tour service.

I would recommend Alessandro Cammilli. He's been our guide for the last two trips to Livorno/Florence. He's very knowledgeable, speaks good english & has a comfortable car with air conditioning. His rates are very reasonable, $35 for four people. He can be reached at alecamma@hotmail.com. Have a wonderful trip!!
