Royal suite check in?

Okay, this sounds daft, but when you check in for the Royal Suite, is anyone likley to mention its the Royal Suite? I konw the suite has special door sign, what about the key etc? Anything that on check in would be obvious its the Royal Suite?

My problem is, we will be checking in with our family and as their seapasses go on my credit card, they will be standing there as we check in. I do NOT want them to know we have the Royal Suite. Want them to go off to their cabins and them come up to our "cabin" after boarding. This is the first we want them to know. Want to avoid at any cost, the mention of being in the Royal Suite until we are all boarded and they have first of all been to their own rooms.

Can anyone help please???

I did read someone say they were escorted which is common to us being Celebrity cruisers so that I dont think would arise any suspicion.. but please, can you tell me is there any thing obvious???

Many thanks!

Let's see, your set sail pass shows RS, and the RCCL dock person will start treating you like royalty. You will be brought to the front of the line and the next agent will process you as normal. Then they call for a special escort.....from the ticket counter to the front of the embarkation line, and then escort you aboard. Someone will be handling your carry ons from the time you leave the check in counter.

There is nothing on your sea pass to tell those that don't know that you have the RS. Your bottom C/O number will start out with 001-and the last three digits of your cabin number.

So.........if you want to stay "under cover", start off by getting into the regular line, and don't show your sea pass to anyone till you get to the agent at the counter. Explain to them that you have family and want to surprise them when you are all onboard. Tell the agent that you do not want an escort, and go thru security with everyone else.

Study what floor and where the RS is located. Once onboard, again don't show anyone your sea pass card, just head for the elevator (if it's after 1PM) and head to your floor and to your cabin. Otherwise, if it's before 1PM, head to the Windjammer for some lunch.

After you have settled into your cabin, you can call your family in their cabins and invite them to come to your cabin number.

My DW and I have stayed in RS's on RCCL and RS's on X.

The difference is that on X, you go thru security and then once onboard, you are escorted to your cabin. The Royal Suites on X are the second largest suite vs the Royal Suite on RCCL used to be the largest.......until the Presidential Suite came along!!

Good luck with keeping your secret, and enjoy your cruise!!:)

 lol!!!

Thank you Rick, you are a star!!!

Need to re read this several times I think but will get there in the end!

I,ve been in a royal suite on X, also in the Penthouse (aw bliss) but not actually staying there, best to date has been a humble sky suite!

So THIS, which was my xmas present from my darling husband, is going to be a wonderful treat for us. I just really dont want the others to know. They think we are in a Grand suite which we had originally booked. As they havent sailed RCI, they might think the treatment goes with a grand suite??? Would they????

My daughter would definately question why we are in the normal line, she knows we always board priority line???

Its either that, or I figure a way out of making them check in the normal line and we go seperate way but we like to all board together for the historic photograph to join the gallery:rolleyes:

God help the poor people in the neighboring suites, can only hope they are nice and will put up with us lot! I know the others will gate crash us on a regular basis.. had it before, daughter and niece banging on the door after disco closes.... oh dear...

Must tell them the piano switches off automatically after midnight...

SO..tell me... you are obviously experienced cruiser in the RS! Can you help out with the other questions I have been asking? You got any reviews of the RS? Canapes for our party??? Rick, I would so appreciate your info!

MANY THANKS xoxo

OH..is the room number on the door??? I seen a sign saying royal suite but is there an actual 1620 on the doorway??

I have no experience myself, but on my next cruise the guy in the RS was behind me in line for check-in and next to me at the check-in counter. He was treated exactly the same and nothing was indicating that he was in the RS, no escort or anything. When boarding he was again behind me in line and still no escort and there was no escort onboard either. He was just a passenger like anybody else.

You might try being considerate and keeping the noise down. Or invite them over.:)

As for whether or not the RS gets an escort, that depends on the ship. Monarch's GSM always made a point of escorting OS, RS and certain VIPs onto the ship, bypassing the (sometimes) long security lines, but I do not believe that's a fleet-wide policy.

In any event, enjoy your luxurious surroundings!

Dont fret, I was only joking! It is however a fun ship I believe and fun we will most certainly have! We were very much the same in our suites on Celebrity, our neighbours were great.. we ABSOLUTELY respect others space and privacy and would not upset anyone. The girls will be well warned! (They are not children BTW, in their 20s!.. thats m problem:D)

Whats a GSM??

I've sailed in a Royal Suite twice and while I didn't get all the special

treatment that Rick gets, he is spot on with his advice. If you're trying

to keep this a surprise I would arrive in the afternoon. When they

first start boarding they are looking at people's seapass to be sure

people are in the "appropriate" line. If you wait until after the crowd

thins out you'll have less of an issue with this.

We surprised our MIL with the RS. We didn't put on our luggage

tags until we got to the port. I distracted MIL with paying for the cab

while DH put on the tags and gave them to the porter. When we

checked in, I stepped up to the agent first and quietly told her not

to mention the room we're in.

The second time, no special treatment other than getting to board

right after the wedding party along with the other suite/diamond

guests.

I don't remember if there was a room number anywhere out there.

Definately says Royal Suite on the outside of the door.

I'm excited for you!!

I don´t know why it was this way, but maybe it was because we boarded very early - in fact as the first people after the B2B folks. This was before 11am and of course cabins were not available until 1pm as usual. Most likely I hand´t even paid attention to it, had I not talked to the guy already when waiting for them to open check-in and he was from germany as well. So we kind off walked through check-in and boarding together and I was able to mention the "no special treatment". But from your post this might not have been the norm.

Oh Thank you! What you did is exactly what I am hoping will happen with us. But there again, I would like to board around noon... did your MIL love it??? My MIL will be in shock! She is loving that we got her a promenade room, and the cruise is our treat, but she will just adore the RS! She can play piano so will tinkle those keys! When were you on? Which ship?

To answer your question, right next to the door is the cabin number. Oh, by the way.......it's also in braile!!

And since everyone in the family knows that you are staying in a GS, get in the suite line, and just let the agent know that where you are staying is a surprise for the rest of the family, and please refer to your cabin by room number only.

GSM............stands for Guest Services Manager.

As far as giving any parties in your cabin, the concierge will be happy to work out details for you.

Jean.......interesting....we have had escorts on the Legend, Vision and Monarch. Don't ask my why!!:D

If your family has their own set sail pass they do NOT need to check in at the same time you do. I suggest you go online and check them in yourself, this will allow you to enter your credit card info, and print their set sail passes. Then you just give them their set sail pass and say meet you when you are done checking in. Additionally when you check in tell the check in agent that you are also covering the onboard accounts for stateroom #'s xxxx, xxxx and xxxx. So he or she can take care of it right there. Again no need for your family to check in with you.

You say you like to board together for the "historic photo". Again this does not necessitate that you all check in at the same time. You check in through your priority line and you family checks in through the regular line and whoever gets done first can go sit down till the others are done checking in then go together to get your picture taken.

The seapass card does not say Royal Suite on it. It only shows the last digits of the staterom number on your card. This is for security purposes. If you lose it, no one knows what deck you are on, nor do they know the enitre stateroom number. Unless that too has changed, the one and only time we were in the Royal Suite, there was no indication that it was the RS, and we were not escorted to our stateroom.

I hope you are able to pull off the surprise. Have fun and enjoy every second.

THIS sounds like a fool proof plan!!!

So as long as I have checked in online, and filled out the c card details, they wont be asked again at embarkation for those details?? This I could get away with. I can tell them RCI really strict about check ins... Think this is the best plan yet even although daughter will be miffed at not checking in with us... Sounds good to me..Thank you!!

I can dig up the price listing that the Dining Coordinator gave me.

We had drinks only and were maxed at 20 people for our party:(

Email me and I'll let you know all about it. anita k 63 @sbcglobal.net

We kind of had the same situation last summer on Mariner with two Owner Suites. We booked one for us and one for my sister and brother in law. They had never been on a cruise before and we told them they had an inside cabin. We really built it up to make the OS a real surprise.

At check-in, I approached the check-in lady and while my wife hung back with the others. I quickly mentioned to the lady about the situation and she played it up really well. Only gave us the keys and room numbers and did not mention the suites. We told our relatives that we could board early since we were Celebrity club members. We went to the buffet before going to the room. Boy, were they surprised when they found their room number.

The other thing to mention, we checked in very early and when while walking to the bathroom before seeing the rooms, I was called by name by the concierge who had checked out my picture from the check-in process. He apologized for not meeting us at check-in and escorting us to the cabin. I told him it was not a problem because of the surprise we were working on. It all worked out really well.

I can only tell you from my experience checking in with our friends who were in RS on Mariner last May. It was a mob scene outside terminal and they went up to guard to see if they would be able to go directly to check in. "NO" not until they got past security and upstairs. Then we both checked in at same time and they were not treated in any other particular way. I feel it got worse...the concierge never even introduced himself to them lol. Their room attend did go out of his way for them.

What I would do if do is write a short note to let check in attendant at desk know your intentions and give it her when you give her seapass info and passports. It may help you keep your secret.

That's pretty cool that the concierge recognized you. It always

amazes me how some people are so good at remembering, I could

never be a concierge.

We were on the Navigator several years ago and my father had booked the RS as a surprise to my mother. We checked in with priority check in for Plat, Diam, and suite members because of our C&A status so she didn't know the difference.

My father put a post it on their travel docs saying "Please dont mention the RS as my wife has no idea and I want to surprise her". I dont think the woman was going to say anything though, but we were glad the post it was in there to be safe. I think the woman thought my dad was so sweet for surprising her!

I think to be completely on the safe side, we are going to check in on seperate lines. My daughter bosses me around, and have no doubt at some stage I would get the "MOM!! Give ME your tickets and I will see to things!"...

Both DH and I decided last night, thats the best way, no problem then either way whether we get an escort or not. Dont care if we do or not, only care that we arent sussed!

Boarding on RCI I must admit does seem a whole lot different from Celebrity where even in inside cabins, you are greeted with a glass of champagne and escorted by a white gloved steward to your cabin.

I guess thats why it does surprise me that someone staying in a Royal Suite wouldnt get an escort....

As I say, couldnt really care less either way...just dont want to be busted by the family:D
