rigelkent Posted November 23, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 23, 2008 I hear the Boudicca hit the quay in barbados and has not sailed. Anybody know what the knock on (no pun intended) effect will be? I believe she has a hole in the bow.
Goldryder Posted November 23, 2008 #2 Share Posted November 23, 2008 From the grapevine.... The port authorities were shifting her to another berth to allow for Ventura and due to high winds Boudicca caught another cross berth. The damage caused a 7ft dent which needed to be repaired before leaving for Castries. She was due to depart on the 21st but has delayed that til the 22nd to allow for repairs to be made. rigelkent Posted November 23, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted November 23, 2008 I think its more than a dent. I understand the engines locked ahead and failed to go astern. Looked a busy port that day with some RFA ships in as well as 3 other cruise ships. Lucky she did not hit one of them.

Ron Brinsdon Posted November 25, 2008 #6 Share Posted November 25, 2008 Will attempt to post my pics. We left Ventura at 14.00 on Saturday 22nd and no repair work had been started - at least from outside of the ship. Regards, Ron & Karen

rickpo Posted December 7, 2008 #10 Share Posted December 7, 2008 Just got back from our cruise. We were on the deck at the rear of the ship when it hit a buffer head on, we had pulled away from the berth and were expecting the ship to start reversing but instead it just seemed to drift forward and all of a sudden drifted no more. There was a sudden jerk, the pool splashed about a bit and a lot of the bar staff and waiters came running out to see what had happened. We where about one and a half days late leaving port after a new bow was welded onto the inside of the original bow, the ship was passed as seaworthy and sailed away with the hole still in the front. I must say it was a talking point at all our ports of call. To cap it all we had a 23 hour delay coming home, it was terrible, we had to stay in Barbados another night on board the ship and they would not even let us pay for our drinks. The captain got a big cheer when he announced that. I have heard that it will be repaired in the new year when they have a window of a few days. Anyway we had a great cruise, met some great people and would book with Fred again. Rick.
KeithLancashire Posted December 19, 2008 #11 Share Posted December 19, 2008 Hi rickpo, Just got back from Boudicca. At Captain's Cocktail Party he told the story of the "bump". In a nutshell he blamed computer error - The Computer was given the instruction to reverse but instead it chose to take the ship forward into the Quay. Looks like they have had a go at welding it but the dent is still there for all to see. Our return flights were fine - set off slightly late - made up some time and arrived into Manchester almost bang on time at 4.30 am this morning. KeithLancashire Posted December 20, 2008 #13 Share Posted December 20, 2008 Thanks Steve,:) Put a thanks posting yesterday to you - I was a bit jet lagged as we only got home at 6.00 am - think it went on the thread someone started about Fred Olsen charter flights. Info very helpful & it felt like we knew the ship already. Didn't need to see Maitre D re table as we were allocated a very good one in Tintagel. We had a great time. Each island was different and only two did not live up to our expectations and some pleasantly surprised us. Flights and everything went smoothly. We pulled up next to Boudicca and noticed a rather large dent/gash in the bow at the waterline! She was actively sailing on a similar itinerary to ours as of December 13, 2008 so although the damage is visible it does not appear to be affecting operations
KeithLancashire Posted December 24, 2008 #15 Share Posted December 24, 2008 Hi, We set sail from Barbados on the cruise after the one involving the collision. Attached is picture of the dent which I took when we were docked at Willemstad Curacao. At Captain's cocktail party he blamed computer glitch - He said the computer was instructed to reverse to pull away from the quay but the computer sent Boudicca forward into the quay. Some welding has been done but full restoration cannot be completed until Boudicca finishes its current programme in the Caribbean well into 2009.
