Bora Bora and Princess Excursions

Hi all, My last post garnered no replies because it was vague, so hope this reaches those with some ideas.

Charlie, I want to thank you so much for you fabulous reply to my questions on the CC forum. It is terrific to have first hand knowledge of a place. Just a couple more questions for South Seas adventurers:

Bora Bora - I've emailed 2 recommended BB possibilities - Nono Levard (email nono.levard@mail.pf sent back as non existant) and jeanne Tinorua but have had no reply. Any other ideas how to contact? Thank you Meherio for the initial suggestion.

My friend has been on the Tahitian Princess and remembers an up close, in the water with the rays excursion from a previous sail, but I think the Princess one in Bora Bora is just a watch from the boat experience so we'll probably pass. Does anyone recall any ray swimming in the Islands?

We're in Bora Bora for a good chunk of time but I don't see anything appealing from the ship. Any ideas besides those above? We'll be on snorkel excursions in Huahine, Raiatea, and likely Moorea. We have our own gear and could just get a taxi to a beach, but there's always the danger of getting stranded. Has anyone just set off with a friendly cabbie?

On Rangiroa we actually dock at Avatora I believe and I heard about a fellow from "Rangiroa Activites" who has snorkel trips for about $50. But the email on his website doesn't work. I believe his tours can be arranged at the Kia Oro so will give that a shot. Anyone familiar with him? I'm still thinking of perching on the Kia Oro beach, tho' Charlie says it's not a great beach but the snorleling is good. I'm sure if we quaff a few beers they won't toss us out. Any better ideas for Rangi?

Again thanks to you all,

Verna

The best thing we did on Bora Bora was the helmut dive. You can only do it via a Princess excursion. It was so much fun. Never even got my hair wet!

On our next visit to Bora Bora we hired the Circle Island trip at the pier. We were taken in a small boat to the string rays. It was amazing. We stood in the water and had dozens of rays all around us. Then we motored to a place where we snorkeled with the black tip sharks. It was an awesome day.

For Rangi, we took the free bus out to a pearl farm - it was the best tour we took. In the afternoon we had time to snorkel from the beach. Really not much to see.

The daytime catamaran sail was nice. The crew was great, provided fresh fruit, rum punch, and juicesm and they were also decent musicians. We anchored in a quiet bay and most aboard snorkeled. Lots of very colorful corals, and some pretty fish in the shallow water. It was a very low key, relaxing excursion.
