And as noted, Blue Lagoon is the only thing open all night serving a good assortment of foods. I usually went for wings and fries.

With us, it's the wings & fish-n-chips :D (burgers there are OK also)

the train leaves at 7:30, but it's only a few yards (if booked through ncl) from the gangway. you will have time for breakfast at the buffet and still get off the ship in plenty of time for the train. the ship will be docked very early, for us it was docked before 5am. many people were, already, off the ship by 7am.

The Blue Lagoon isn't really open 24 hours either. It closes for a couple hours in the middle of the night. This probably wouldn't affect anyone except the night owls like my adult children, who expected to be able to eat there after the bars & casino closed (around 2am? maybe, I was in bed!)

Like Toyz said, you will have time to grab a bite and walk right over to the train. I think they also had an early breakfast with just coffee and pastries or something to. Also, there is room service.

Just be prepared to eat and leave vs. going back to the cabin. Nice thing in Skagway is that you are tied to the pier and can walk right over to the train.

Don't forget to visit the Alaska boards. See notes in my link below.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated! I am thinking of doing the Whitepass rail excursion in Skagway that leaves at 7:30am, but wanted to eat before we left the ship. Looks like it will be the blue lagon.

Room Service! The buffet was crazy on port days as everyone wanted to eat and get going. We found that a basic room service breakfast was good enough for what we wanted but you may beg to differ after consulting the menu!

I have never done room service before, so I have a few questions:

We have a balcony room, do you know what the room service menu consists of for breakfast items? How do you go about ordering? Do you leave your request the night before and let them know what time you want it, or just phone when you need it and they bring it to you?

Thanks again for the info. I am such a worry-wart, I like to find out everything I can before I go on this trip, so hopefully everything will go smoothly! (Plus we are going with the in-laws and other family and I want their vacation to be the best!):)

There will be an ordering form in your cabin. You can fill that out and leave it on your door knob when you go to bed. Or...you can always call anytime, using the room service menu that will be in your cabin. I would choose to call the order in the night before, since I don't trust fellow passengers (especially kids) to not steal my card from the door.

Breakfast was basically cold stuff before Freestyle 2.0, and it was supposed to be improved with 2.0, but I have not seen the new menu. I will see if I can find one on the Internet and post again.

here is a link to what I remember before FS2.0:

I couldn't get your link to work, said I was not authorized to view the page. I did a search on google and found a room service menu for one of the other NCL ships. It offered cold cereal, muffins, juice etc. Nothing in the lines of hot food.
