LA Tours from San Pedro?

Recommended Posts

Try this company - they come highly recommended!;)

At any rate Sunseekers is currently the only one that is picking up from San Pedro/Long Beach area.

And lucky for you, they have gotten very good reviews recently.

If you decide to rent a car and drive - you might have more flexibility. Then you could try some of Curt Jerome Wild's "official" driving tours.:D

And here is the OC Tour by CJW:

This information should keep you busy for a little while......If you have any other questions - ask them. CJW lurvs this stuff and will give you lots of good advice.:D

(I'm just stalling 'till he shows up:p)

Unfortunately there is not a lot out there.

Your best bet in your time frame is to rent a car (Enterprise is right there at the bottom of the Crowne Plaza Hotel as one option) and take one of the driving tours leisurely.

It lets you see what you want, and make the most of your actual time.

LA City Tours is a possible option, but it's much, much better for people who have far more time and a much later flight.

You might have time to do Tour A-4-3 (Beach and Shopping)

http://www.lacitytours.com/Layovers.asp

If your flight leaves at 3 PM, you should be there checking in at least by 1:30 PM - so you don't have as much time as you think.

Let us know what you decide to do, or if you have more questions.

Curt Jerome Wild: Thanks for your help. We have decided to take your advice and rent a car. Our men would like to see the Queen Mary and we have decided that might be the best bet for a short sightseeing tour on our own. Does that sound like a reasonable plan to you? You recommend renting from Enterprise? How close is Enterprise to the pier? When you turn a rental car back in at LAX is there anything we should know? We figure we will need to allow about 1-1/2 hours to leave the Queen Mary, drive to LAX, turn in the rental car and then be ready to check in at least 1-1/2 hours prior to our 3pm flight.

Karla, you are totally fine in your plans so far...

Just keep an eye on time.

Enterprise is closest to the San Pedro pier at the bottom of the Crowne Plaza hotel. Just make sure that you have your reservations and pickup times/info beforehand. (they are closed on Sunday).

Then you can drive up this route...

But...

If you have decided that you only want to spend your time at the Queen Mary, then go to LAX you don't absolutely need to rent a car now.

You can just pile in a taxi to the Queen Mary. They'll hold your luggage while you tour the ship.

Then before you are ready to leave, just call SuperShuttle for a pickup.

Just another idea/option.

The Queen Mary will hold our luggage??? WOW. That is a great option. We were thinking of that but didn't know where we could put our luggage. How much would a taxi cost to get from San Pedro to the Queen Mary?

Queen Mary is "technically" a hotel, so they have baggage holding service/area for their guests.

They are also "hurting" a bit for guests taking the tour.

So, if you are going there to pay to take the tour - then they are more than happy to hold your luggage in the storage area.

That's customers that they wouldn't get otherwise.

(maybe tip the porter).

Taxi cost from San Pedro to Queen Mary is about $10 to $15 (not including tip). It will be only about 5 to 10 minutes across the bridge, depending on day of the week and traffic.

You are SO very welcome!

So absolutely, just take a taxi to the Queen Mary.

Look for the Bellman, and tell him/her that you are taking a tour or having lunch...

(I think the tours available change every day, but are ready to go by about 10 AM - look for the Concierge for that info).

Just give the Bellman a tip, and they'll be more than happy to store your luggage for however long you are hanging around and touring the Queen Mary!

Let us know how it goes, and give us a little report when you get back.

All of the plans were in place and the shuttle reserved, but after our last sea day being extremely rough, we all just decided we wanted to just sit at the airport instead of racing around hauling luggage. So we called, changed our super shuttle and headed for the airport to chill before our flights. So, we missed the Queen Mary this time and hopefully we will get to see it in the future. Thanks for all of the help though. It was going to work out, but we were just tired of being on the move.
