Lyncruiser Posted December 8, 2008 #26 Share Posted December 8, 2008 Glad it worked out for you. It is shocking how many people will post totally incorrect information -- with absolute conviction that they are right! Port charges are a set amount based on the ports at which the ship is stopping. By contrast, sales tax is a rate based on the purchase price. Very simple! I take most of what I read on these board with a grain of salt. This is why. I spoke with them at length and most of the charges seem to stem from airline fees. They may change again as the fuel supplements get taken off - since they are doing the surcharge OBCs today I can't get into the reservation. Customer Service did confirm that the taxes are calculated based on the DAY you make your reservation and not on the cruise price so a lot of what the other posters have said is correct. We'll see what the charges look like tomorrow.
cruisinfanatic Posted December 8, 2008 #28 Share Posted December 8, 2008 By contrast, sales tax is a rate based on the purchase price. Very simple! Wrong. It's based on the cruise and where it's going. Purchase price has nothing to do with it.
