Water spraying boats???

Can anyone tell me why there seems to always be some sort of boat spraying water around cruise ships before they leave the dock?

It's for crowd control. They're hosing down all the drunks at the sailaway party. :p

Usually done at inaugural sailings of a ship or from a certain port.

The Boston FD fire boat did this for NCL on our recent cruise. Not sure why they did it because it was not the last cruise out of Boston for the season, it was still August. It really is a great thing to see. It was DD's first cruise so she really got to see something exciting. It was the first time I had experienced the fire boat "send off".

We got one for our Legend cruise to nowhere two years ago out of NY harbor. It was not inaugural.

 

 

I was disappointed they didn't color the water. I guess they keep that for the holidays.

Last year we got a send off like that show above, but somehow they were pumping in the same spot the previous liner dumped their sewage.....it was still marvelous, but I didnt stay to enjoy the entire show.

The cruise ships dump their sewage stright into the water? I've got to believe that isn't legal, even in international waters but certainly not in a port.
