Norwaylin Posted December 15, 2008 #1 Share Posted December 15, 2008 I visited a friend in London last summer and recommend the following: Must see: London Eye (great view for great pictures) Boat tour on the Thames Double-decker tour bus We took local buses and the tube. A word of warning: try not to take the tube during peak times -- rush hour.

skisteamboat Posted December 16, 2008 #3 Share Posted December 16, 2008 We always take the bus. More to see and not as crowded (usually). Cheers
Norwaylin Posted December 21, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted December 21, 2008 You are right about using the tube at rush hour. I found the tube to be so crowded that you felt like you were in a sardine can. I know people are working and I was on vacation, but I would prefer the bus. Rare debsjc Posted December 21, 2008 #5 Share Posted December 21, 2008 I was in London Friday and Saturday, and the tube was busy in rush hour, but I still felt safe. People always seem to move around to make space for you to get on. A good tip is to stand right at one end of the platform, those carriages are usually more empty than the central ones. We did take a bus as well, but buses get stuck in London traffic and tubes don't! If you aren't familiar with London the circle and district lines can be a bit confusing, to me as well, but the others are all easy to work out. Sometimes it's quicker to walk short distances, than go up and down all the escalators - for example Covent Garden to Piccadily Circus (via Leicester Square) only takes 15 mins to stroll.
