Navigator late departure

I'm aboard NOS and it's 7pm and we're still sitting in the port at Fort Lauderdale. Supposedly there is some maintenance issue preventing us from sailing. We've just received word that we'll be sailing at 9pm. Do they simply sail at a faster speed to compensate for the delay?

We were delayed until very late last January on Brilliance. I don't think we sailed until 10pm. They were doing some kind of maintenance. Anyway we arrived in our first port right on time. No worries, the captain will make up the time.

I was bummed on our sailing because I had looked forward to sailaway. We had fun any way.

It may be too late now but if you would have gone starboard side you would have seen divers. They are working on the stabilizers in almost every port.

We sailed at 8pm last Thursday. You be fine.

EDIT: just went to inletcam's website. You are still in port. I see a shiny light starboard side. That is probably the dive boat.

Just received a call from our son on the Navigator in FLL and he told us that they were removing the stabilizer from the ship with a crane as we spoke. (9:00 PM). Don't know any further details.

Doesn't surprise me. We had rough seas on our cruise (the cruise which disembarked today). They worked on them before we left Port Everglades and after a day in rough seas they worked all day in Cozumel on them and then we had another rough sea day.

I guess they are done now (the stabilizers I mean). ;)

She's still there at 1:18 and I see the bright white lights. Hope they get the stabilizers fixed soon.

Trust me, the stabilizers SUCKED this past cruise (getting off 12/15) On Friday it just rocked back and forth :( I was in bed sleeping for 4hrs so I didnt feel it :(

The stabilizers weren't really that often deployed. We had a lot of pitch motion (front to back) and a mix of roll (side to side) and pitch. When there is pitch motion the stabilizers have to be retracted otherwise they get damaged or even rip off. Plus our waves were a little to high to have full effect of the stabilizers.

The stabilizers were a subject on our bridge tour and the first officer explained that they are most effective for the smaller waves anyhow.

Sorry that you didn't feel to well. :(

Hope you had a great cruise anyways. Was nice meeting ya' and your daughter.

Hi Sherri...yeah, I went and checked it myself earlier...and I don't see her in port anymore. That is good news! She's left port late for 2 cruises now. I guess I should expect the same on Saturday. I really don't care...as long as we leave port! I'm looking forward to Cozumel!

Not telling DH about this -- he will stress that the same thing will happen on Jan. 10 IOS as he is always anxious to be 3 miles out so they can open the casino.

RCI must have lost a lot of onboard revenue with the casino & shops closed.

I hadn't even thought of that!

Thanks Oliver but that rolling side to side SUCKED, whatever caused it! I felt no pitch though!

ANyway, hope the ship finally sailed off!

I felt some pitch but besides dinner I was mostly midship. I talked to a couple in an aft and they said they were bouncing up and down. LOL.

More often than not you have a mix of the two and those stabilizers can't be extended then either.

You should have knocked on my cabin I had motion sickness stuff with me. My wife and I don't need it but we are usually traveling with people who might need it so we always have it in our emergency kit. ;)

How did your daughter do?

BTW, the Navigator sailed just before you posted. I think I saw her leave after midnight, maybe 1ish.

The Navigator is missing her aft port stabilizer. It was cut off in the mouth of the Tagus river (off Lisbon). We were stuck almost 2 days there last April:o. We were told it wouldn't fully retract in to the hull. Portuguese authorities wouldn't permit her to sail until the stabilizer was fixed or cut off. We were able to watch from deck 4 & see the light from the divers torches.

We were with you on the ship then. We just did the TA on the Navigator again in Nov. and it was fine.
