Keeper420 Posted April 20, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 20, 2004 Hi all, I am going on Explorer of the Seas on October 31st, 2004 and am planning to propose to my girlfriend. I was wondering if anyone one out there had some good ideas. Especially you women out there, I want this to be as special as possible!!!! I was thinking of Asking during the first formal dinner. Any and all help is welcomed!!! Thanks P.S. I Know she will say yes, so I just want to make it extra special. Something to tell the future kids about!!! Hucc Posted April 20, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 20, 2004 maybe you can arrange for the Captain to make an onboard announcement of some sort ? if they will do this, just make sure that you are in a place that you can hear the announcement can you imagine? "Ladies and gentlemen, this is the Captain speaking. Today is a very special day. Mr. John Smith is seeking the hand of Mrs. Susie Queue. jkrislc Posted April 20, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 20, 2004 I haven't been on the Explorer, but I do believe they have a specialty restuarant. This would be a good place for the proposal as the atmosphere will be more intimate and the service will be much better. You could probably even get the head waiter involved and have it delivered to the table with dessert. I proposed to my wife during our first cruise ever and it was very special. Another option is to propose in one of the ports at a romantic location. Either way, it will be memorable. In addition, 10 years later you'll have an excuse to go on another cruise to ask her to marry you again. Keeper420 Posted April 20, 2004 Author #6 Share Posted April 20, 2004 Thanks all. keep them coming. I like to exhaust all possiblities. Hey jkrislc, I might just have to do what you suggested to get another cruise, because I darn near had to tear her arm off to get her to go on this one, because she had a horrible experience on Carnival. sherryberry71 Posted April 20, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 20, 2004 How about setting the tone for a wonderful cruise right from the moment you embark? superjerryw Posted April 20, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 20, 2004 Propose on formal night. Speak to the Maitre'd and have him bring a few waiters to the table on formal night and have them sing Happy Engagement before you propose. Your girlfriend will undoubtedly have a perplexed look on her face at that point and that's when you ask her to marry you. sscruising Posted April 20, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 20, 2004 Hi: I would arrange to have a bottle of champagne and some flowers at the table your FIRST night at dinner. Can you imagine how excited and grateful she will be for the rest of the cruise!! Believe me, after that she'll forget her experience on Carnival. bbrad8 Posted April 20, 2004 #12 Share Posted April 20, 2004 Keeper, You have some excellent suggestions already provided. Use parts or all of them. Make sure you make the ENTIRE cruise special! This will forever bury the past Carnival experience! One thing you need to decide first is if you and your girlfriend want this to be intimate or very public. Remember, you will have this memory for a lifetime! Personally like the intimate settings. IMHO would use one of the specialty restaurants. If you want to involve the Captain or Cruise Director, ect, I'm sure something could be arranged. Remember the one you are trying to impress is your future wife!! Whatever you decide, wish you the same luck that I have experienced with my DW (25 years and counting). Cam6959 Posted April 20, 2004 #13 Share Posted April 20, 2004 Hi If you want a public proposal, I saw one on my last cruise that I thought was fun. He had the photographer take a picture right when he proposed on the first formal night. They now have a picture to document the moment! The look on her face was priceless as he dropped to his knees and the photographer shot a picture at that moment. Wonderful.
London, Canada Posted April 20, 2004 #14 Share Posted April 20, 2004 I have a suggestion that is off the ship. Go for walk along the beach...during the day while in port, of course, and pin the ring inside your pocket, so you don't lose it...start collecting sea shells and then let her get ahead of you on the beach...when she isn't looking take the ring from your pocket...put it in the sand and call her back to see the cool shell that you found..when she returns, there sits the ring and then ask her...I personally would like a private proposal rather than one that had hundreds of eyes on me. royalcaribbeanfan Posted April 20, 2004 #15 Share Posted April 20, 2004 Do it the first formal night. Order Champagne and arrange to have roses delivered to the table during dinner. Right after the roses arrive and you have everyones attention, pop the question on bended knee. Very romantic and she will be very surprised. I'm not sure where the flower shop is on Explorer but you can ask. If you tell them what you are planning they will make sure everything is perfect. You might want to clue the waiter in too! Good luck!!! Just a thought; when you decide to get married you might want to do it on the ship too, since that is the place you got engaged. BLUEICE Posted April 20, 2004 #16 Share Posted April 20, 2004 Wow, I have to think about this a little longer and I will repost. I think it would be cool to do like a scavenger hunt each day starting at embarkation leading up to the second formal night and set up something in the dining room or Portfino's. Again, I will think of things she can hunt for and where and will post again. This could require alot of planning on your part, but wow what a way to propose - over several days..... figgifumi Posted April 20, 2004 #17 Share Posted April 20, 2004 One nite on deck when it is just you and her- slip your arms around her and look up at the stars. Take her hands in yours while you hold her close and tell her to close her eyes and make a wish on a shooting star. Then while her eyes are closed slip the ring onto her finger- she will undoubtubly look back/up at you- and you can wisper in her ear "now will you make my wish come true and make me the happiest man in the world..." then kiss her neck. Have it arranged that you will return to your room where a bottle of champane, a dozen roses, and choc. covered strawberries await with a sweet little thank you note for her making your wish come true. justcruzin85374 Posted April 20, 2004 #20 Share Posted April 20, 2004 Make reservations at the speciality restaurant and speak to the Matradee with this suggestion: Buy a dozen red roses, sperate the roses into single stem roses. Then have the waiters from the specialty restaurant come by one by one and give her a rose...except the last rose will be from the Matradee who will give it to YOU cause it will have the ring attached to it on a ribbon....then you can get down on one knee and propose.....Don't forget the champainge and ship photograghers to be on hand! ambergloww Posted April 21, 2004 #21 Share Posted April 21, 2004 All the above posts have fantastic ideas but the thing that sticks out most from when my husband proposed are the words he said, so make sure you speak from the heart. Lil Mo Posted April 22, 2004 #23 Share Posted April 22, 2004 IMHO -being a woman -I would like a very public proposal. You may want to check out the TV show "Perfect Proposal" on TLC. Maybe you can do something with the Kroose Komics before a show. And as for something to say--like my dad says--don't marry someone you can live with--marry someone you can't live without! just4kixx Posted April 22, 2004 #24 Share Posted April 22, 2004 Personally, I would prefer a private proposal... but that's just me. Definitely consider your fiance's feelings though, if she's the private type, don't embaress her! However you choose to do it, I vote for doing it the first night, or no later than the second night. You will both want to enjoy the whole cruise, and once the worry and planning (on your part) and actual proposal have taken place, you can both relax and enjoy!
