maricruise Posted December 20, 2008 #1 Share Posted December 20, 2008 How is the weather in the Caribbean this time of year? Should we take a sweater just in case? We are sailing from Miami on the Dawn on Dec 27th, and here in Tampa is a little chilly! Just wondering...

I have never found that I needed one, but some people think the A/C on the ship is cold. I've never been cold in the Caribbean, but that's not to say it couldn't happen. Have a great time. We'll be on the Dawn the cruise following yours. I will be in the E. Caribbean at the end of March. Coming from a part of Canada that even in the heat of the summer, our evenings and early mornings can be chilly because of the altitude in the mountains. What can I expect in March? Will I be able to "hang out" on my balcony late at night or early in the morning without freezing or should I have a jacket/sweater for those occasions? Should be plenty warm that time of year, but it doesn't hurt to bring a sweater for the balcony, or you could wear the robe. I can hardly wait... sigh! cpcanuck You're welcome, cpcanuck. I thought you would find that warm being from Canada. I usually bring a fan with me. :D It's warm compared to New England too, especially today after the snowstorm.. Got about a foot and it's still snowing with more to come tomorrow. Not a big storm, but a pain to shovel. Those Caribbean nights are sounding better and better. ;) Have a great time!

I think you folks are getting more snow in the east. We have been dealing more with bitter cold and wind chills (-35 C to -40 C - which when converted to Farenheit becomes -40 F!). As of today I will be on the ship in 90 days! Wahooo!!! cpcanuck

I didn't realize -40 was the same in C and F.
Gingee Posted December 20, 2008 #10 Share Posted December 20, 2008 We just got out of a ice storm yesterday. Most schools were closed and some businesses. We still have lots of ice on trees and bushes. Two weeks from tomorrow I hope I am on the ship.
flashdog_1 Posted December 20, 2008 #11 Share Posted December 20, 2008 and never once had need of a sweater. (Of course we stayed indoors during hurricanes At this time of year there are the Christmas Winds!! whatever that means. So people who've lived in the heat for 11 months may notice it is cooler because of the wind. Instead of a sweater, a long sleeved thin cotton blouse or knit top would do instead if you are on land after sunset. But the ship's decks and restaurants may be chilly! b43147 Posted December 20, 2008 #12 Share Posted December 20, 2008 I've been on 8 cruises. I take a sweater every time because the dining rooms, public rooms and casino are always freezing (to me).
EileenN Posted December 20, 2008 #13 Share Posted December 20, 2008 I've been on 8 cruises. I take a sweater every time because the dining rooms, public rooms and casino are always freezing (to me). I agree with this 100%. I take a shawl and a sweater for the same reason and have cruised more than 10 times. It is still the best time to cruise to get away from the cold weather. bakerintn Posted December 21, 2008 #14 Share Posted December 21, 2008 An example would be St. Thomas, USVI Average High is 87 degrees Farenheit Average Low is 73 degrees Farenheit You can expect some rainy days (but the rain won't last long) You can expect some wind -- often 15 miles per hour more You cannot expect snow When the ship moves, it also creates wind, so plan on windy days at sea or in port. We found that the ship interior was cold to us, especially as compared to the outside temps.
