Gon2hwe Posted December 20, 2008 #1 Share Posted December 20, 2008 I signed up on the Carnival website for emails on their specials. I've noticed that now every time I go to one of these specials I get spam from all kinds of websites. Most seem to be from foreign sites from porn sites to Ethiopian sceams. I'd like to see their specials but I get tired of deleteing spam for days after I go to their site. I've been watching this carefully and I only get these emails when I go to the Carnival site. Do you think it's Carnival or the agent for Carnival that sends me these specials? Guess I'm just gonna have to block these emails unless someone has a better idea. I've never gotten any spam from going to Carnival's website. Are you sure you signed up through Carnival or did you go through an e-mail claiming to be from Carnival? Donray Posted December 20, 2008 #3 Share Posted December 20, 2008 Never had any problem with a real Carnival site. I think you were not at real Carnival site. Lots of people wind up on fake sites.

BND Posted December 20, 2008 #5 Share Posted December 20, 2008 Do you have a spam filter on your email? I have earthlink and true spam rarely makes it off their server onto my inbox. You need to check your settings on your email and run spyware/adware on your computer to clean it up.

Rare Tapi Posted December 20, 2008 #8 Share Posted December 20, 2008 I agree with everyone else. It seems like you may have "signed up" through a site "claiming" to be a legitimate Carnival website... I've been on the Carnival email list for at least 5 years and I have never experienced anything remotely close to what you're experiencing. vacruizer Posted December 20, 2008 #9 Share Posted December 20, 2008 Same here - I've never gotten any spam related to visiting the Carnival site. Sounds like you clicked on something that downloaded adware to you or registered at a "dummy" site that looked like Carnivals. It happens all the time unfortunately - I work in a bank and that's a particular problem in our industry where people click on an email that takes them to a site that looks just like ours and then they give out information. We had nothing to do with it, but the sites are sometimes so good people swear it was us. Good luck - try changing your spam settings on your email and download and regularly use a good adware scanner. Be careful - some out there claim to be this and are just the opposite!! Adaware by Lavasoft is a legit. one that works well.
Gon2hwe Posted December 22, 2008 Author #10 Share Posted December 22, 2008 Come to think of it, it was Carnival Connections that I signed up on. From then on I got email from one particular agent with Carnival. I have spyware and do not get any odd emails except right after I check the specials that I'm sent from Carnival. Then I get contant stream of them until I have marked them as spam . Maybe didn't make myself clear. I don't go to very many sites and most are sites I have used for years without this problem. Thanks for the help anyway.
