gbcruise Posted December 22, 2008 #1 Share Posted December 22, 2008 Family of 5 will be disembarking Serenade at PanAm Pier & spending all of Saturday in SanJuan staying at the Radisson. (Any feedback on this particular hotel?) Is it best financially to use the taxis/trolleys for the day or rent from Charlie's? We want to leave the ship, visit El Morro & Old San Juan, possibly visit Monkey Island via a kayak trip? If renting a car what are my parking options & is their add'l parking fees at El Morro & Old San Juan streets? Who all will tour us to Monkey Island? rainforestgirl Posted December 22, 2008 #2 Share Posted December 22, 2008 I think you need to choose one or the other becuase OSJ and Monkey island are not close together. "Monkey Island" is Cayo Santiago. It is located off the East coast of the island. No tour operators will go there... you would need to drive yourselves there (probably about 1hr from SJ). But it is pretty far to go if that is all you want to do in that area.... Other great things between Naguabo and SJ- the rainforest, the BioBays, and Luquillo Kiosks. You can make a nice day of it. OSJ is a great place where you can easily spend your day. If you decide to stay in the SJ/OSJ area, your best deal is to take a cab to the hotel (one large cab should cost about $26 for all of you and your luggage). Then take the bus into OSJ and back ($1.50 pp/each way - bring change). Or if it is late, just take a cab back to the hotel. Then a cab to the airport. You could rent a car.... it might actually be a little cheaper, but then you have to spend time at the renal office, and then deal with traffic and find parking in OSJ (it is available and cheap), and then parking at the hotel(not so cheap!). Personally for one day, I would just take cabs and stay around and explore OSJ.
orquidia Posted December 23, 2008 #3 Share Posted December 23, 2008 like the above post said, you need to choose between the historic district or going to the eastern region from San Juan where Cayo Santiago (Isla de Monos) is located, traveling to Cayo Santiago can take you a big chunk of your day. Puerto Rico is not a small island.
