djkk Posted November 10, 2004 #1 Share Posted November 10, 2004 My family of four newbies is going to the eastern caribbean on NOS 11/20. We will be snorkeling on our own offshore. Should we bring our own fins with us? We have our own masks and snorkels. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.:)
Hilary Posted November 11, 2004 #2 Share Posted November 11, 2004 If you're going on your own, you should probably take all your own equipment. You don't want to take the chance of not being able to rent fins, and you definitely don't want to snorkel without them.
teamfour Posted November 11, 2004 #3 Share Posted November 11, 2004 ...you definitely don't want to snorkel without them. I guess I am of a different opinion. I bring my own mask and snorkel, but leave the fins at home. They are too bulky to pack. Also, I have never used fins when snorkeling. There is no reason to zoom around when doing a leisurely snorkel swim. BTW, I dive once a week at the Aquarium of the Americas in New Orleans, so maybe my legs are a little stronger for kicking.
TrqoisWtrs Posted November 11, 2004 #4 Share Posted November 11, 2004 If you can fit them in, I would bring them. As a previous poster said, this way if you are snorkeling on your own you don't need to search for a place to rent. you definitely don't want to snorkel without them. Agree. I've snorkeled in some pretty strong currents and fins were a definite help.
