jpthomas27 Posted January 10, 2009 #26 Share Posted January 10, 2009 Another recommendation for Ekol travel. The private tours in Kusadasi are much more reasonably priced than in other ports so I would go private. If your search for "Ekol" here on the board you will see a ton of recomendations. mes531 Posted January 11, 2009 #27 Share Posted January 11, 2009 We were in Ephesus in November, 8 of us, and we used Levant Solmaz, and I must say, we all agreed that it was a highlight of our trip. We had a great van with driver, and Levant was able to tell us all kinds of things on our travels. The van had a cooler with drinks for us along the way. We saw the Virgin Mary house, toured ephesus where he was unbelievable, did the Terrace houses. Large groups do not do the terrace houses, and they are a must see. We had a great lunch at a small restaurant where he explained about the foods that were available. We then did go to an old mosque, and then on to a carpet weaving school, saw silk worms, saw carpets being woven and saw finished carpets. A great day, a great guide. As to the shopping, we were dropped at the port area at the end of our tour, and still had time to shop if wanted. One couple traveling with us got a fantastic deal on a gorgous sapphire diamond ring. They are e-mailing the jeweler to see if they can get earrings. They made quite a deal...a jeweler in the US valued it about 8000 and they paid 2800.
Rare Hlitner Posted January 11, 2009 #28 Share Posted January 11, 2009 I assume most of you already know this, but it bears repeating. All the guides and tour companies get a kick-back from stores where they take their customers. Its a nice way for a guide to pad their income. So, it stands to reason that they will do what they can to convince you to shop. On the other hand, if you are paying a private guide it is also your right to tell the NO.
