London Hotel Recommendations?

TexasR&H

Recommended Posts

We're cruising next may on Voyager of the Seas from Southhampton. We will be spending two extra days in London and wanted to know if there are any hotel recommendations? We're thinking of taking the train to Southampton, so hotels near the train station (tube stations) are preferred. We'd like ones that aren't too pricey, but not "dives" either.

Thanks for the help!

Hi there. when I was in London, dh and I stayed at a hotel called Travel inn- county hall. It is now called Premiere inn- County hall. It is very central in location, on the river Thames, beside the London Eye and a 1 min walk to Big Ben. The Marriot hotel county inn is on the river side and premiere inn, facing the street is the cheap side. It is a converted parliament building, so rooms are very spacious, clean but very basic. It is a 5 min walk to Waterloo train station, one of London's major stations. have a wonderful trip. Sharon

The train station in London that Southampton trains terminate is Waterloo. The Premier Inn County Hall and Days Inn Waterloo are really the only worthwhile budget 'no frills but solid' hotels in the immediate area.

However these two hotels room rates have proven remarkably firm through the current economic troubles with rates around 100 GBP, whilst 4 stars around them have had to discount agressively. The Park Plaza is a new 4 star hotel opened around a year and was discounting aggressively all through 2008 when the times were good so I suspect you may get get a good deal here, perhaps cheaper than the no frills budget hotels. The hotel is quite good as.well and Big Ben, London Eye, Westminster Abbey are all within 5 minutes walk. The immediate vicinity has cheapest rates at the weekend. If your nights are at the weekend also try the City Inn and Novotel Waterloo which discount agressively then.

A couple of hotels I have stayed in recently and liked are -

The Hoxton

This is not right in the centre, but it's 5 mins walk from Old Street tube station and then you can get to most places within 15 mins on the tube. It is a lovely hotel, and sometimes you can pick up a bargain.

Thistle Hyde Park

Stayed here just before Christmas and had a beautiful room overlooking Hyde Park - this is very close to Oxford Street for shopping, and again you can get to most places on the tube. We got a deal with lastminute.com but

you could try contracting the hotel directly.
